NHL - Campbell continues to kill penalty skating on broken leg!

BOSTON - The Boston Bruins lost forward Gregory Campbell for the rest of the playoffs when he broke his leg blocking a shot on a Pittsburgh Penguins power play during the second period of Game 3.

The Bruins confirmed the broken right fibula on Thursday morning, though it was clear he was in distress as he stayed in the game to help his team despite the injury.

The fourth-line role player went to the ice to block Evgeni Malkin's shot and struggled to get back to his feet after being hit in the right leg. Once he did stand and pick up his glove, he continued killing the penalty on one good leg, circling and keeping his stick in the passing lanes and standing in the shooting lanes to deny the Penguins a clean shot from the point.

GAME 3: Rask, Bergeron shine in Bruins' win

He did that for 40-plus seconds until the Bruins got the puck out of the zone to remain perfect on the penalty kill for the series. He limped to the bench as fans cheered his name. He didn't return to the game.

"What he went through showed a lot of guts," Bruins coach Claude Julien said after the game. "It was a pretty serious injury."

Added Bruins captain Zdeno Chara: "He was willing to do whatever he could on that one leg. So this (win) is for surely for him."

I was watching the game last night and was very impressed with that guy's courage and determination.

It is funny people mention soccer. As the play ended and Campbell made it to the bench both teams players applauded him and one of the announced said something about you will never see an Italian soccer player do that.

NFL football too. Hockey players and American football players are the toughest and pay the worst price of any athletes. Many many NFL players are cripples by the time they're 50, most of them have many many surgeries after they retire - and then there's the brain trauma where the symptoms don't show up until they're retired.

Rugby is pretty brutal too.. Both of my cousins played college rugby, and both of them have gone through shitloads of surgery..
