So how do you define a racist / racism? I don't care about the textbook definition(s). More interested in yours.

To me a racist is someone who either hates people based on race alone or they automatically come to some kind of a conclusion about someone based on race alone.

A racist is someone who based on someone's race feels some sort of negative stereotype towards them. And negative to me isn't shit like white people liking the Gap or black people liking watermelon, but more serious negative things about someone's personality or behaviors. Like believing all black people are lazy.

Interesting, now what if it was true that a certain race did do something more than another, using your example of being lazy, what if white folks were proven to be more lazy than their other ethnicity counter parts, would calling a white dude lazy by say a Hispanic individual be considered racialist?

To be fair I know some spooks who actually don't like watermelon and a bunch of crackas that don't shop at GAP. Would that be stereotyping based on your own posting or would you consider that generalization to be racist?

If I was to say that all chinks like rice, would that be considered racist in the context of this thread or would I need to say something more than that? Like say all chinks are good at math, I don't see either of those as being racist, somewhat bigoted maybe, but not racist by any stretch of the imagination.

Doesn't it ultimately come down to an individuals belief about what is or isn't considered racist and / or offensive?

If I said to you that 2 Kikes invented copper wire fighting over a penny, is that racist? I know several people on GFY would probably consider it to be, whereas others would consider it more racist if I said that all the Jews deserved to be gassed in the war. Both have been said in the context of this thread, as we are actually discussing racism I personally see no issues with both of those two statements, yet if I used those derogatory terms to someone on here without there being a discussion on racism, then I would say it was fair game to say those comments would in fact be racist.

Isn't the context of what is said more important than the words themselves?

2 people could call the same guy a porch monkey (using a term that was on GFY lately) but the black dude being called it by a close friend isn't going to take as much offense as if he was called it by a complete stranger in the skreet whilst chomping down on some friend chicken and watermelon whilst washing it down with some grape Kool-Aid.

Pretty much same for me.

I grew up in a white town. We just didn't have blacks - or Hispanic. It just wasn't something that was discussed. The only "colored" people we had were the Italians, they all seemed to live on the same street in a row of rather average houses.

Boot camp was a shock for me. Suddenly I had to live in the same room with black men! I learned to get along - quickly.

I think racist is a person who really has prejudices or hates another race. But Americans are taking this way too seriously - saying ni--er (had to do this because gfy is censoring)does not make you racist really...it can be said just as an empty phrase, especially by people outside usa.. ...just like when someone says fat fuck they dont necessarily hate or despite fat people..

For example, the word fag doesn't bother me unless there is hatred in the one saying it. If one of my best straight friends says you're such a fag because I do something ridiculous and over the top, they obviously aren't homophobic or they wouldn't be one of my best friends.

If I have a preference to live in a neighborhood with other whites, that doesn't make me a racist, it's preference. If I do not care for Thai food, that does not make me a racist, it's also a preference. Just the same as someone pointing out Asians like rice, blacks like chicken, Italians pizza, whatever. The same can be said for Catholics, jews, Muslims that all congregate together for whatever end. They prefer being around those who believe what they believe or have a shared culture or value system. None of which makes them a racist.

Most of the time people screaming "racism" are clueless as to what it means in the first place.

possibly an exception is when white people decide they like living by each other, but to me that's more of a cultural situation than racial. racism has become a cultural catch phrase denoting the behavior of white people.

I think everyone has had bad thoughts towards another ethnicity, but I don't believe that makes a person racist. It's hard to define because there's nuances to the arguments that come from different life experiences and perspectives.

I think true racism is a feeling of superiority and pure love for your own race.

This is all pretty fascinating to me.

I'm 30% Mexican (Aztec) , and a mix of German, Portuguese & Polish. So I guess I'm "white-ish" and therefore have zero ability to think my "race" is superior to another.

That said I absolutely have stereotypical feelings / reactions about groups of people. These are based on past experience & fact.

From what I read here that makes me a racist?

I think people see racism in far too many things. I think people that might crack a joke here or there or casually say something race related are in fact very normal.

It's human nature think you are better than the other guy or try to distance yourself from various groups.. It's part of our survival instincts.

However there is a line than can be crossed which IMO is unacceptable.

what I wanna know is who gives a fuck if someone else *is* a racist? Aren't they allowed to be racist? Not to carry out racist attacks, and take actions that are genuinely offensive (though offence is always taken, never given imo), but to have the belief that eg blacks are inferior? Or that indians are? Or whatever the fuck it is they believe?

Who am I, or is anyone, to take away someone else's right to have their own belief(s)? Assuming of course they don't act on it to physically or mentally harm those they have racist beliefs about.
