Health insurance is pure SHIT

I'm brazilian and here there's no health plan, paid or free that works.

The government offer this shit called SUS where you can (hypothetically) do almost everything for free, even surgery, but the line is so big that most people die before having a chance to see a doctor.

To make a MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) people have to wait ~ six months. To make a surgery, one year or more, so those who have something to sell, they just sell to have a chance to live, and those who wait, most of them just die.

That's why I have to say that the best health plan for sure is MONEY. If you have enough, you can get the best treatment ever. Yes, we do have hospitals for rich people here, where politicians, celebrities and entrepreneurs go when they are sick.

And we have these private paid health insurance where we pay something per month, let's say US$ 70, but when we really need to use the service, they block we out, and then we have to hire an attorney and go to the court.

Crazy shit, right?

Yeah, thats some crazy shit. Whats more sad is the fact its like that in many more places then you think. If you dont have health insurance in USA you wont be accepted into a hospital unless its a VERY serious condition. And all they do is patch you up and kick your ass out as soon as then can.

Brazil looks like it is about to explode from my vantage point. People look as pissed as what I have watched happen in places like Egypt and is happening elsewhere in Europe.

What do you think from your perspective? Are you in one of the powder kegs?

really? that makes no sense. why would they accept someone into a hospital in usa if they didn't have insurance? especially if it was a serious condition! maybe that's why people rates are higher than they shoudl be

Hospitals that accept USA government payment (Medicaid, Medicare) are required by regulation to render emergency treatment to everyone -- stabilize the patient.

Problem is they get reimbursed by the federal government ( at sub-medicare rates ) for the services they give this way to uninsured and indigent patients.

As a consequence of this, they pad the bill of every non governmental paying patient to subsidize the low reimbursement.

So, in either taxpayer funded subsidies or private paying patient charges, we all get stuck with the bill -- our private health insurers get the padded bill and pass the inflated costs along to us that they pay -- then they add their "administrative costs (and profit margin)" -- that is fucked and part of the high cost of medical care in the USA.

You're going to pay either way toots.

Whether the government subsidizes part of it, or whether someone comes in uninsured leaving the hospital to completely foot the bill. Either way there is a short fall, and the hospital/business is going to pad the bill to cover for it. I supposed the government/tax payer could pay for NONE of it, and then your bills could go even higher.

You can't have your cake and eat it too. You need to decide if healthcare is a basic right for everyone as a citizen of this country, and if so, how to pay for it. If you do not want to pay for it either in/directly, then you need to be open to stepping over dying people in the streets. It really is that simple.

I do not like paying for more than my fair share either. However, you're part of a bigger society and those citizens. The main issue most have is just where you draw the line on what is a "fair share" we must all pay.

not all hospitals here in CZ are really fancy and the staff is massively underpaid but in general the system works pretty good. for a relatively low price.

they even cured Paul Markham from cancer ;)

Makes no sense. Horrible horrible!

Beleive it or not, it is about the same in Quebec. With the difference that the health system is free. No private insurance to pay. We pay a lot of income taxes and it should cover us for the health care.

The problem is that we have a sovietised system. All the equipement is old and there is a long waiting list to get a MRI etc. Often, for an emergency, we have to wait 24 to 48 hours to see a doctor.

Quebec is run by socialistic idealists that ruined the province. I moved from that place and will never go back there.

from my personal experience i can say that i got everything i needed immediately - incl. blood tests, ultrasound etc.

some extra tests i insisted on i had to pay cash but that was maybe 100 bucks.

considering that my health insurance costs like 50 bucks a month and co-pay is $1.50 per visit...

nah - i really cant complain about health system in CZ
