I'm using a Nikon SD-9 with my SB 910 flash
![]() http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...tery_Pack.html It's more than twice the price of the Bolt (the Bolt is a knock-off SD-9) but I've always gotten my money's worth sticking with Nikon gear. Lighter and easier to handle than my old Quantum, although when attached to the bottom tripod mount on my D4 it makes the camera a bit awkward to hold, so best to keep in belt pouch. |

Why not just carry extra batteries?
With my camera I have a rechargeable batteries, and every time I shoot I charge up a dozen of them and roll with them.... Never ran out.

As dyna mo notes, "those reduce recycle time as well as extend the # of flashes"
I carry extra batteries too, but there are additional power management benefits with the SD-9, which unlike batteries in the camera / other holders, doesn't just draw max power from say the 4 AA's in the strobe, but now from 12 AA's, only skimming the needed juice from each battery = far less heat related issues, which really affect recycle times. If it was a porn proggie, it would be like old CCBill affiliate admin vs NATS re: functionality |

Because a high power battery pack also reduces the recycle time of the flash unit, as well as providing a greater number of flashes.
I use one of these: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...tery_Pack.html |

i hear ya. that's why i had decided not to buy it and also then postponed buying it after it was recommended. but it's very easy to use, it's like holding the camera viewfinder up to my eye, but my hands are a few inches further out than usual. but it does solve the stability problem and the sharp focus problem, the monopod helps too, but the lcdvf really steadies the cam (3 points- both hands and my eye) and seeing the screen up close means i can manually tighten up focus.

I use it with the Nikon SB 900 and SB 800 I use fresh batteries every time I shoot and as far as recycle time This external power source way speeds it up. Get the right power almost as fast as you can push the button. SB 900 doesn't overheat like the SB 800, but the new SB 910 doesn't over heat at all. I also recommend having a few extra power cables as the do go bad often. Great power for any Speed light work. ![]() I mostly shoot Pro Photo strobes for work stuff though. Just Dave

oh, yah, lol, sorry, it's for video only. the viewfinder is magnetized and has a bracket that snaps into place on the back of the cam, then the viewfinder clamps itself onto my cam/bracket, it also has a long loop for putting around your neck to go back and forth easily without having to put it down. it's a convenient alternative to a steady rig, which would be ideal but not practical for my style. + the bonus of manual focus.
