A river runs through it (pics)
Have you ever heard of the LA River? You have probably seen photos of it in some chase scene or movie about gangs in LA; it is often used as a graffiti decorated cement backdrop in movies out here. To be honest, up until a few days ago, my only dealings with the LA River was the cat faces painted in the storm drains well over 50 years ago.
A little over a week ago I was at a beer event and met the owners of a new microbrewery planned for LA, and they told me they were planning on having it located on the river. Since I had seen some chatter about a redevelopment plan for the river I became quite interested. When they invited me to a gathering on Sunday at their home, which I new was a lot closer to the river than I am, I decided to head out a little early and see what was out there. I admit, I was pretty surprised. I am now waiting to meet with someone that can show it off a little more to me, but I will definitely be back. Here are a few samples. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I even saw vvvv there ![]() You can see all the photos at http://craftbeerguy.com/dry-river-brewing/ |

I'll be damned. All of my years living in the area and I never really noticed it.

Maybe it's just the pictures, but is that really a river? looks more like a stream to me.

I always thought it was man made, but apparently it just looks that way because of the Army Corp of Engineers who decided to encase it in cement back in the 30's for flood control purposes. |

Not that this has to turn into a debate if it's a river or not, but for arguments sake: Quote:

lol, that's super.
![]() did you know that the river just last month was re-opened to public recreation after being closed for 80+ years? crazy right? i wouldn't have ever known that cept for i met the folks behind this at a party recently http://lariverexpeditions.com/ ![]() funny side story, at that same event i met a lady with the last name of del amo, i chuckled to her and her friend later that she was named after a street, teasingly. her friend told me no, the street was named after her family, which is one of the original 100 la families/names. i learned many of the big named old streets here are named after those families, sepulveda, etc. derp! |
