Hollywood Bowl question

It has been a very long time since I went there; anyone know how they are about bringing cameras in?

oh, haha, got distracted, i've been to 2 events there, 1 big, the other not so big. peeps had cameras, no flash, mostly smart phone cams and no fancy cameras, i don't think you will get in with your 5d. certainly not with a flash attached.

in my experience.

Yeah, I knew I couldn't get my flash in, but wasn't sure about the 5D. I get that into Staples easy enough, but it is always when we are in a suite. Guess I will decide to chance it based on how close to the entry we can park.

People were bringing in cams when I was there last summer. They feel less strict as people bring booze and sorts in too.

I think it depends on the show. I know it does for alcohol.

Check your receipt for the tickets. It will probably tell you.

an idea, depending on parking and the distance to your car, you might try to walk in with your basic 5d, i think depending on the size of the headliner act, you might be ok, if they stop you, you can jet back to your car and drop off the cam.

or a p&s, if you have one, should be fine.

I long for the day when you can get an instant copy of the show you just saw handed to you on a jump drive (for a reasonable fee) as you leave the venue. Artist's would still sell out shows. I think it would be awesome to go home with a video of the show you attended. I mean, they are filming them anyway (usually) or at least have the HD camera going for the big screens. It wouldn't be that hard and would be another income stream for the artist. Really surprised this hasn't caught on yet.

hah, that's a great idea! i'd buy that, the profits hopefully all go to the artist, win-win. i can't be bothered to record at a show, i'm too busy clapping and stuff, otherwise i wouldn't be there! lol

I've been to a couple gigs over the last few years where there was an option to buy a recording of that gig that would be available after the show. I guess it didn't work all that well or it would be more common.

I think if you're a die-hard fan you wouldn't care. Besides, it's still going to be a LOT better than anything you record with your handheld point-n-shoot or worse your phone camera. Granted, you're not paying to use your own phone but when a cocktail is $18 wouldn't you pay, say... $25 for a video of the show that just happened? One where the sound was tied into the the mixing board and the cameras had the best vantage point?

Music festivals should be all over this.

Start listening to Phish. You can buy every show they play, and if you go to the show, you can use the info on your ticket to get the show for free. It's available the very next day for download. Don't think they do it for video just yet. Entire concert costs about $10, each song maybe $1-2. If you go to the show, free.

Man, the Pixies are playing three shows at the El Rey in LA. Such a small venue. Which, of course, means they all sold out instantly.

Pearl Jam does this however it's only an audio copy.

I've seen it be both video and audio depending on the gig. I don't remember the price exactly but I want to say something like $30 which isn't pennies but isn't that far off the price of a t-shirt at a gig.

The first time I saw it was at a Hall and Oates (don't judge..everybody has a secret love) gig a few years back. I recently saw it for the Kaiser Chiefs in San Francisco and an indie band called Palma Violets here in LA. I am sure others do it.

I guess but it would still be better than 99.9 percent of the Youtube videos out there. I'll fully admit that now, if I have been to a gig that I really liked, I will go onto Youtube looking for replay of the better songs.

I've been to a few gigs there since I moved here. It may take another Brit to appreciate it but I saw Billy Bragg there. He is a bit of a hero of mine and I got to be smack up front and center to him. That just wouldn't happen to me elsewhere.

It is a great venue.

You should have been born a Deadhead.

This has been happening in the jam band scene for a while.

I remember when Vedder and McCready were hanging out on the side of the stage at a Dead show back in the day. Turns out they were there to literally study the scene and figure out why a band that let its fans tape them could be so successful despite typically bad record sales.

Based on the Dead's model, Pearl Jam, Phish, and more all figured out it was about playing live and creating a scene, a culture, an experience that was about the moment... and recording that moment for posterity just made sense... and luckily now it makes business sense.

I am not advocating carrying it over your shoulder; but they do not look very closely. I know I could have got the flash unit in . . . not sure what would happen if I used it.

These people always crack me up - They pay to see a live performance, only to pay more attention to making a crappy recording of it on a cell phone... LOL.

Very cool. I wasn't paying attention or I would have gone to that one myself.
