Seems like you are taking the right medication:

If the medicine doesn't cure you, check with GFY user 12Clicks, since I heard he knows a thing or two about shingles.

Have luck...

Right medicine, but it takes well over a week.

This is fucking painful, scratch open the blisters and clean with rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide. Definitely speeds up healing. Also works for poison ivy.

Has anyone taken the vaccine?

Hate needles but would hate shingles more.

It's a live virus vaccine so can actually give you Shingles

Oh yeah, it's a Merck vaccine too, so best avoid

My mother went through a really bad bout of shingles - she's still recovering.

It was brutal. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. The doc had her on a morphine medication during the worst time.

I remember when my youngest contracted Chicken Pox a few years ago, it was unpleasant but thankfully he was not in any great pain however when my Mother & Mother In-Law were hit with Shingles, it was particularly nasty.

Someone I knew ended up in intensive care with shingles, she was an undiagnosed diabetic and succumbed after septicaemia set in.

As someone said here, it can be brutal and there is very little medicine can do for it other than to treat the symptoms.

I guess this is one of the advantages of having never had chicken pox.
