Riding on Mulholland drive

Took a ride with friends yesterday, we started out just going to have 3 riders, after breakfast and a couple phone calls we had 6 Harley's on their way to Topanga where we turned onto Mulholland. If you have never heard from it. it's a very famous road. Lots of twists and turns. Lots of cameras taking pictures of you as you carve out the curves with loud pipes.
We went to the Famous Rock Store and had a couple beers, then headed to the beach to Neptunes Net , if you don't know about this place, just look to the movies, it's been used in a lot of them, like the first Fast and Furious where they had lunch at the beach and got into a race. A favorite hangout for bikers of all kinds.
There we met up with the 7 Skulls and headed out to the SageBrush Cantina. Danced a little and had shots. One of the 7 Skulls was worried I got pissed because he clipped me on the ride, his freeway peg hit my front crash bar. I was just glad no one got hurt. My buddy got pulled over when he went over a hill to find a cop cruiser, he got off with a warning, which no one could believe, but he did.
Love days like this, had no plans, was trying to think of something to do, then we started getting phone calls from friends and had a great day.

That's a fun ride, but personally I used to prefer riding to Newcombs ranch on the Angeles Crest Highway, then going through all the other roads around there for the rest of the day.... Less traffic, and early on a Sunday AM me and my buddies would race like crazy up that road. :-)

Although this was more my style when riding Angeles Crest back in the day... :-)

I love cruising through those canyons and around PCH. It's like a mini vacation every time. I don't hit the Snake part of Mulhulland often though, my floor boards scrape too much on that beastly turn haha

Yeah, I scraped a couple times. There was a about a dozen photographers on us as we went around that one really tight turn.

Mulholland Drive has a lot of celebs living on it or right off it, expensive to live on some parts of it.

I have a 99 Road King

nice pics but seeing the video makes me wonder how often you come across a big rock in the road. I see many right on the edge. Is that a problem or just part of the fun missing them

That's part of it, I saw right outside the tunnels we went thru on the way back they had a major slide today, so we missed that. It was deafening having 12 Harleys going thru a tunnel all at once and I think all of us had aftermarket pipes! I loved that!!!!!

I want to mount a go pro on my bike some day, but not putting that on my helmet.
You would think they could build something smaller for that

parts of the year there is icy water runoff across these roads too! not rideable in the winter even. good times.

i doubt there are many places on the planet that have as many choice roads to ride as socal.

all the malibu canyon roads, angeles crest(the funnest part is on the other side of newcomb's!), glendora mountain roads, palomar mountain road(s).

Wow that looks like it was alot of fun. I know the road but have only seen it at night and as a passenger. Would love to actually drive it myself one day. Very famous place.

Next week we are doing a different ride. We're working on getting more people together for it, it's pretty cool to ride with a large group. Rice burners ride like they are on fire, getting from point b as soon as possible. Harley's ride like they own the road, that's why my bike is called a Road King! We stopped the traffic on a signal so we could all stay together!

I'll post pictures

This one was just friends on a ride at the Sage Brush Cantina, right down the road from Video Secrets

Yeah, GF and I do the Taste Of Solvang, did it last year and will continue

Riding boots? Never wear them, just some new balance tennis shoes.
I need to get some boots, just don't like wearing them.

If all goes well with a project I'm working on, probably get a new bike next year.
But want to keep this one

Yeah, thru some friends, I get to ride with some patched club members from time to time. I think it's funny that most are riding baggers and wear tennis shoes.

On the show Son of Anarchy, the main character wears white tennis shoes

GoPro makes handlebar mounts - I use one.

But helmet mounts give the advantage of shooting video of exactly what you're looking at. I used a helmet mount on a local go-kart track...much better than fixing it to the kart - less monotonous viewpoint.

Hope you ride better than this clown on Mulholland.

The only time you counter-lean on a bike is at parking lot speeds.

Yeah, got to keep your feet on the pads. My foot pads are pretty big, looked like he was hanging his feet on the edge of the pads.

I know that corner, that's about as fast as you want to go on a big cruiser, unless his had been lowered, then he has to go slower.

I've been riding dirt bikes for most of my life, I had a Husky 400 in high school, I still have an ATC 250 which has had a lot of engine work. 325cc 2 stroke motor

Sweet day man!!

I used to live up that way back in the 1990's and LOVED IT. Topanga was home to some of my best friends, with amazing music all around and tons of ancient hippies to keep it real. LOL AWESOME!

Hey don't know that Neptune's Net place but is The Reel Inn still around? That place had THE best fish tacos ever. Used to like Gladstones for Fish but that place turned real tourist-y.

Last one: Inn Of The Seventh Ray, halfway up Topanga Canyon Blvd. INCREDIBLE place. Wonder if it's still there. Was run by a cult, I think. LOL Had all kinds of religious pamphlets in their bookshop along with New Age-y things. But this was their "legit" business so they kept it low key. Incredible outdoor dining with a brook running between the tables, very romantic.

Ahhh I miss Cali!!!

Dude, between the cold breezes running up your pant leg as winter sets in, and the danger of a flying rock busting yer ankle, boots are a smart idea, and great for stomping folks when absolutely needed.

the good thing about not wearing boots is your foot will be torn cleanly off as opposed to partially torn off and stuck in the boot.

nevertheless, a true gem of socal is that musuem, solvang even! great town although i'd slowly commit suicide via candy and chocolate if i lived there.

there are ~ 3 candy shops in this photo alone of dt solvang!

Not sure he has been here long enough to know how cold the Valley gets.

Sherman Way in Van Nuys is lined with those really tall palm trees.
You live way out in the high desert, I know it gets cold there

I grew up in Camarillo with most of my family living in the Valley at the time. I lived up in Redding California for 20 years before moving back, the Valley has nothing on the cold that Redding can get or anywhere the heat that Redding can get. During the winter, it freezes in Redding with snow. During the summer, 120+ in the shade. stephen will back that up. I know cold, the Valley is warm. I only wear a jacket when riding the bike near the Ocean at night.

Looked like he hit just his rear brake too, total noob

I've been riding dirt bikes for my whole life, but was smart enough to know that a 800+ lb bike would be different, so I took a safety class. It was only 2 days but totally worth it.

I might take the high speed class this summer, but I ride with guys that have been riding for decades and they can't believe I've only been doing this for the little amount of time I have. I just pay attention!!
