Depends, are you counting falsetto? I guess if you're saying belting you mean no. In that case, you'd need to be a serious bad-ass as a dude to get out three octaves. Like, Pavarotti was king of the high-Cs, which for a dude is c5. And there are very few basses who can perform a c2, two lines below the bass clef. I think the highest note recorded by a guy is the one song "flyyyyyyy my way, or no way at aaaallll" that is an G above high C.

Can you do 3 octaves?

high G at 1:58

Just tested myself against a guitar, I can go from low F (second lowest note in standard tuning) to the D that is played on the 10th fret of the high E string. So basically 3 half steps short of 3 octaves, but I have a chest cold right now and my range is affected. Will try again when healthy.

That is pretty righteous though

Listen to Geddy Lee of Rush on 'Freewill'. Fairly sure he hits at least 3 octaves.

Rob Halford used to be able to do almost 6, although now he's older, he can still almost hit 4.

My vocal prowess has often been compared to...

As a singer, I'm told that I'm a good guitarist.

I read somewhere that Brad Delp of Boston was somewhere between 4-5 octaves, although its difficult to tell where he transitions to head voice (falsetto).

Check out the note at 2:15

I would rate Brad Delp as one of the greatest singers of all time - three tenors, all time, anybody. This guy could do anything. Quote:

"The rest of the band was less involved. "If Tom could have played drums, he would have; he was that compulsive about the control of the project," Boylan observes. "He was particularly so with Barry, who had taught him to play the guitar in the first place. But with Brad, Tom seemed to find his limit. He knew he couldn't sing like that. He just sat there and listened for pitch and tempo."

"Brad sang Led Zeppelin's ?Communication Breakdown?. I had never heard anybody sing like that before, I will never forget it." -Barry Goudreau

If anyone had a 5 octave range it was him

Yeah, not talking falsetto. I can belt out a high E above high C... yeah, Boston and Loverboy territory. With falsetto I can go a few notes above that but it's not "useful" sounding lol. On my lower register I can go down to a solid low G below low C and if I'm warmed up enough, maybe low E. So all up I've got just shy of 3 octaves. I just wish my bass register was better but what can you do...

That's awesome - with high notes like that I wouldn't worry about low.
