An Atheist?s Open Letter to Those Praying for His Son

From The Post:

"The following open letter may upset you. You may feel insulted because when it comes to matters of faith, people are more apt to take criticism personally and react defensively when their religious beliefs are brought into question. Please know it is not my intent to offend, because as I said earlier, I am truly grateful for the offers of support and kind words from family and friends. But sometimes we?re faced with emotional situations that escalate to a boiling point. I?m at that point, and it?s time to open a vent."

Ironically, his long-winded post is as masturbatory as the prayers that believers are offering him. This open letter loses its ostensible audience with its title and its message that he is reaching a "boiling point" hearing about all these prayers.

He could have delivered his message in a few bullet points:

- Thanks for thinking of me and my family. That is very kind of you.

- Will you donate to a cause that might help prevent this misfortune from befalling other families? It might help stack the odds in addition to the power of prayer!

No "believer" is going to read this "open letter" and change his ways.

So when you tell me you?re praying for Grayson, I?m going to be gracious and say thank you. But know this ? your gesture does more to make you feel better than it does to comfort me or help my son fight for his life in his incubator.

If they prayed for him, he could deny their prays, but they pray for his son.

hah, more proofs athiests are the most miserable dickheads on the planet.

if only he spent 1/10 of the negative energy he put in that letter into positive energy for his son.

but he's too miserable and needs to lash out at others whom he disagrees with.

i see his gofundme bullshit

It's still too soon to tell how long he'll need to remain in the hospital or what type of aftercare will be needed. What we do know is that visiting him every day is taking a financial toll, aside from the physical and emotional ones we're dealing with.

what a fuckwad. i'd rather live next door to someone who believes in god over some dickhead athiest pointing his finger "venting" while asking for charity because visiting the hospital is tough.

fuckwad.

Meanwhile if you told him you were praying his son would die... he would be greatly offended.

I'm always semi-amused by anyone on either side of the religious argument that assumes they have it all figured out. The reality is we don't know for sure one way or the other and we won't know for sure one way or the other until we die and by then it is too late to tell anyone else. It is all a big guessing game.

Maybe not figured it all out but just supporting their own views.

You think about it, decide which view you support and then laying out your arguments of why you think that view is correct

Sure, it is ultimately supporting your own view, but that view is based solely on a guess.

meh, the bloke is hurting... I've said many a cunty thing when in emotional pain/turmoil, so I'm not gonna hold it against anyone else, or look at it from a perspective of rationality, when they do the same.

Indeed...same argument that has been used for hundreds of years.

The tired old Pascal's Wager argument.

The only difference is that we now know that the concept of god was made by people with no scientific knowledge so it is understandable and forgivable - not so today.

That however, is not true in these days and religion only serves to control the ignorant masses and used as justification for so many problems in the world. 911 being a good example.

I think many organized religions are bad and they are controlling. Still we can't know for sure if there is a God or not. We can come up with a million arguments on either side and yet there is no way to know for sure.

a 'God' as defined with capitalization and a deity? I think any sane person today can know for sure whether 'He' exists

Some form of ultimate intelligence, binding force, natural phenomenon we can't comprehend? Far more likely, and a concept I'm at ease with. The label 'God' placed on that, with the guesswork fabricated backstory to go with it, is pretty nuts imo, but hey each to their own. Placebos work even when you know they are placebos, and if someone's life, and/or mental state is the better for it (religion), without interfering with mine, who am I to take that away from them.

This is 100% my belief as well

My Mother was an athiest and tried indoctrinating me in the "Objectivism" mindset at a very young age via Ayn Rand. If my mother wasn't such a hateful selfish person it might have worked, instead I started exploring religion on my own @ around age 10.

This guy reminds me a lot of her. It's the "How I feel is what's important & your only value is what you do". There is a whole subset in the athiest world that feel they are superior because the KNOW that when you die, nothing happens. They also feel that since they are superior and only have this one life that selfishness is their right as karma doesn't exist. It's pretty fucked up. This guy is that kind of cold hearted atheist. What a great Dad he's going to be.

But hey, he's raised $8k on his GoFundMe so far!

In an ideal world that would be acceptable and no problem...the problem is that we DO NOT live in that Ideal World.

We live in a world where crazy religious nuts want to kill you for not believing in their magic invisible friend.

We live in a world were there is NO separation of church and state and those want to control and dictate your behaviour to THEIR moral standards and tell YOU how to act, behave, and even what to think.

We live in a world that is still run by people who think angels exist, that magic can heal, and that fantasy rewards of the "after life" are better than living in the ONLY world be have proof exists - the here and now - yet they long and dream of DEATH.

No - If you care about your life you must oppose these irrational forces who DO IMPACT your life - again 911 comes to mind!

Have a nice day and god bless you suckers!

This is how I have felt for a long time. I don't know if there is or there isn't a God. I like to refer to myself as a "whatever gets you through the day" person. If having religion and practicing a religion gives a person a better, more fulfilled life, so be it. And likewise for those who have none.

If there ends up being a God or anything like that...we'll see. Until then, we're on my time. The interim is mine.

Gamma rays were discovered in 1900 by French chemist and physicist Paul Ulrich Villard.

Before then, gamma rays simply did not exist. Because there was no proof. You could travel the world over, and read every piece of scientific literature in existence before 1900 to your heart's content. But you would neither see this magical, so-called "gamma ray," nor have any scientific proof anywhere, whatsoever, that gamma rays exist.

Therefore, by all scholarly logic and rational scientific reasoning, gamma rays did not exist. If something cannot be shown or proven, it simply cannot exist and you're a fool to even consider otherwise. I learned this solid, infallible logic from atheists.

Now with that being said, are there crazy fucked-up religious nuts who I would just as soon avoid like the plague? Absolutely. God and them are two entirely separate entities.

Everyone experiences life differently. He's no different from the zealots of Westboro in the end.

If I want to worship FSM no one has the right to tell me otherwise. Same goes for praying to FSM for his kid. On the .00001% chance there actually is a FSM listening to my prayers if this child was mine I'd say thank you for the prayer and go about my damn day.

Dude is a dick.

period.

There is a separation of church and state, this is how pedophile priests are charged with crimes. There is not a complete separation of church and state, but there is a separation.

Every society has an innate structure. From ant colonies & beehives to buffalos and lions.

90% of society is passive, it's the 10% that push in certain directions that you should be angry at and fight against. A shift in perspective.

As you are well aware, priests are not the only ones who can be arrested for child abuse.
Has nothing to do with them being associated with any church...now back to the topic at hand.

If you are an AMERICAN would you please take a moment to open your wallet and look at the money inside it which is issued by the United States government.

You will note that every single bill or coin you will find the words:

Now, tell me with a straight face that there is "a separation between church and state."

Based on this clear evidence before the court I rest my open and shut case bitch.

Dude is a dick.

Actually you are a dick.

This guy has balls and integrity to take a stand and live with some conviction and determination in his life unlike pussies like you.

Period

Has nothing to do with them being associated with any church...now back to the topic at hand.

If you are an AMERICAN would you please take a moment to open your wallet and look at the money inside it which is issued by the United States government.

i can state with a straight face that the phrase you point to on money doesn't prove a connection between state and church.

take a stand? Against people who wish him and his family well? lol, where do you have to be in your life to be of the mindset that the battle is against those who offer what they feel may be some help... I can understand it from the guy in question, with a sick child he is going to be all over the place, but seriously, you are just like a religious nut, only reversed.

All you post is how shit the world is, how people need to hurry up and die, and spew hateful crap in near enough every post you make. You aren't a very good advert for how to lead a fulfilled and happy existence, let's put it that way.

let us proclaim the miracle of our faith.

it was a clever scheme too, athiests had to donate, then they can say, see god didn't help, we did.

I told you there is not a complete separation of church and state, but there is a separation. You can now say god doesn't exist without being maimed, imprisoned or killed. Mind you , that you cannot prove god doesn't exist, like you can now prove the earth revolves around the sun.

The drugs you are taking are cheap and impure. Either get a doctor to prescribe quality pharmaceuticals or take a trip to the OC and experience life from a different perspective.
