Duck Dynasty, think retailers will pull out? Think Again!

http://gma.yahoo.com/cracker-barrel-...opstories.html

Less than 48 hours after Cracker Barrel announced plans to pull Duck Dynasty items off its shelves in the wake of cast member Phil Robertson's anti-gay comments, the Southern country store and restaurant chain has reversed its decision.
Cracker Barrel's reversal of its former position was posted this morning to Facebook, following a flurry of negative responses from customers and fans who showed support to the patriarch of the "Duck Dynasty" family.
"When we made the decision to remove and evaluate certain Duck Dynasty items, we offended many of our loyal customers. Our intent was to avoid offending, but that's just what we've done," the company wrote. "You flat out told us we were wrong. We listened."
"People weren't shy. They wrote, called and took to social media," company spokesman Jeff Eller told ABC News about the company's decision to go back on its original pledge to ax "selected products" from its stores.

When have you ever been to Cracker Barrel? I am assuming they have a certain audience with duck calls as one of their products.

Nope. They have awesome food and a great please to have an iced tea and talk with friends. The store they have carries things that will bring out child hood memories.

It's funny that so many on the right seem to want to champion this as freedom of speech.. Meanwhile the right never had much issue with AFA, whom routinely boycotted businesses. Guess freedom of speech is only valid, if it fits the agenda..

The AFA has boycotted companies for various reasons, most often relating to Christmas controversies, pornography, support of pro-choice activism, support of violence or sexual content in entertainment, and support of LGBT rights,[32][33][34] including same-sex partner employee benefits. These organizations include: 7-Eleven, Abercrombie & Fitch, American Airlines, American Girl, Blockbuster Video, Burger King, Calvin Klein, Carl's Jr., Clorox, Comcast, Crest, Ford, Hallmark Cards, Hardee's, Kmart, Kraft Foods, S. C. Johnson & Son, Movie Gallery, Microsoft, MTV, Paramount Pictures, Time Warner, Universal Studios, DreamWorks, Mary Kay, NutriSystem, Old Navy, IKEA, Sears, Pampers, Procter & Gamble, Target, Tide, Walt Disney Company, and PepsiCo. The AFA has criticized the People's Republic of China for its persecution of Christians.

Interesting how in Europe and parts of the US the Barilla brand lost serious stock because of the "gay dollar" after the CEO's anti gay comments, yet this company almost loses business for an attempt to not being anti gay.

Of course its a freedom of speech issue to the right wing. Once again, they're WRONG. What Quacky said is not at all against freedom of speech. He can say whatever he wants.

What the Right Wing and right Wing Media are doing is calling this a freedom of speech issue, which of course it is not. I don't think QuackAttack said is right, but I don't care and neither does he. The -only- issue is A&E's decision to abide by the contract they said with father duck, thats all. Fox News etc is the only one ejaculating all over this.

Sorry, I've been watching the news, even on Fox, O'Reilly said he was not following the bible.

This is not about the 2nd amendment, it's about people being able to have opinions and not be targeted by special interest groups looking to force people into political correctness because they tell people what those opinions are.

You calling it something about the right wing makes you part of the problem.

for **********, the right wing = ~3 people. sara palin, some random republitard running for congress in an obscure part of illinois and whomever else he's told.

he just regurgitates what anti-right wing bloggers spew. he then extrapolates out from that to point at an entire group.

Ahh, so it's not political when it's a message you support? A&E doesn't have the right to decide how their network is viewed? Where is A&E right to have an opinion?

See that's how it works.. Mr Duck has a TV show he is paid to preform on, A&E owns the right to that TV show. Mr Duck can have any opinion he wants to have, he can say anything h wants. No govt agency is going to arrest or fine him unless he violates FCC regulations of course.. However A&E has every right in the world to decide they don't support what Mr Suck says. They have the right to suspend Mr Duck and fire him if they feel he has damaged their network in some way.

What is it about this very basic concept that you do not understand. Also it's odd you say people should have the right to their own opinions, as I mentioned AFA and you just blew it off. Simple fact is AFA tried tries to tell everyone else what opinions they are allowed to have and if they don't share the same opinion, they boycott them..

Why are you so worried about this anyway? It's not like A&E is going to cancel the show, they aren't going to give up a cash cow. The only way this will happen, is if Mr Duck just keeps being a idiot and pushing the issue. If he keeps pushing the issue, then yea A&E will drop him, but that's his right to decide to keep acting like a moron or not,.

All he said was that according to the bible, homosexuality was a sin. Now that is just a fact, and its the way all christian's think, if they think about it at all.

I don't think there has ever been any doubt that sex outside of heterosexual church sponsored marriage has been considered sinful by most or all major religions for milenia and that has never really changed.

The only change is that enlightened people and developed countries do not give a shit about about who is sinning or even really regard the concept of sin. But to the religious mind, nothing has ever changed. So I don't see where the controversy is.

It's not a question of whether sex with someone outside your marriage is a sin, that is a given. The question is "do you give a shit" and the answer should always be "Fuck no".

I'm against assholes that boycott them because they have different views.

Tony, really? You should know by now I support my daughter in everything she does, that's why she is doing so well. I support gay rights, always have, what I don't support is people forcing their ideals down everyone else's throats using boycotts or legal means.

Besides, he didn't put out hate, what he did was state what was in the bible, they take it seriously, it's in Leviticus

There is irony here in that to boycott is speech. He's not being jailed for saying what he believes, and people can flip him a big "fuck you asshole" all day long and they're not going to be put in jail either. All we have here on both sides is free speech.

If someone wants to stock their shelves with more of their stuff, that's fine. And if someone wants to throw all his stuff in the garbage and ban it from their shelves, that's fine too.

Who gives a shit? It's not a rights violation anywhere and nobody is going to jail or anything. An asshole can say whatever an assholes wants to say. That's free speech for you and I support it.

So what exactly is the problem? You don't like that people are complaining about what some dickhead said? Who fucking cares. Merry Christmas.

They spoke out as hate towards Bush
"we don't want this war, this violence, and we're ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas"
That's hate as I read it
The public made a choice on them

We really have to stop letting these small groups who think being offended is some kind of license to destroy whatever they feel offended by.

This is what I think is sad. If as many people got in a uproar about the NSA as are so worried about this Duck show, then we might get our right to privacy back.

Everyone have a great Christmas, I'm off for the day, the weather is nice, riding the Harley over to have a business lunch, ( might take a while) then off to do some shopping.

Public had the right to crush their CD's , mixing them with the French wine and cheese ... ( damn, that was such a funny delirium ... ).

But if you call their comments and opinions ( which by the way we know were right ) hate , what do you call your own speech on Obama here ?

Not sure you will see the parallel , as you seem in a tunnelvision, but here goes :

Quote:
Fired PR executive apologizes for AIDS in Africa tweet

(Reuters) - A public relations executive who ignited an online furor after posting a message on Twitter joking about AIDS in Africa, apologized on Sunday, saying she was ashamed of her comment.

Justine Sacco, who was subsequently fired from the prominent New York-based Internet media company IAC/InterActive Corp after the tweet created a firestorm on social media, issued a statement of remorse on Sunday to ABC News and South Africa's The Star newspaper.

"Words cannot express how sorry I am, and how necessary it is for me to apologize to the people of South Africa, who I have offended due to a needless and careless tweet," she said.

"For being insensitive to this crisis - which does not discriminate by race, gender or sexual orientation, but which terrifies us all uniformly - and to the millions of people living with the virus, I am ashamed," the statement said.

Just before boarding a plane for South Africa on Friday, Sacco posted a tweet to her online account, saying: "Going to Africa. Hope I don't get AIDS. Just kidding. I'm white!"

Sacco's tweet quickly circulated outside her relatively small circle of about 500 followers, with thousands of users denouncing the comment as racist and insensitive. Others called for her dismissal from her post as IAC's director of corporate communications.

Sacco apparently remained unaware of the controversy caused by the comment until she landed in Cape Town about 12 hours later. She quickly issued a tweet apologizing, then deleted her account.

IAC, which had condemned the message, said on Saturday that the company and Sacco had "parted ways."

IAC operates more than a dozen Internet websites, including the news site The Daily Beast, Vimeo, CollegeHumor and dating websites like Match.com and OKCupid.
