Barack Obama & Joe Biden - Democrats
Washington (CNN) – Republicans quickly pounced Tuesday on some controversial details from former Defense Secretary Bob Gates’ new book in which he highlights an admission from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that he found “dismaying” and fiercely lambasts Vice President Joe Biden.
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com...clinton-biden/ According to the excerpts, Gates is sharply critical of Biden. While calling the vice president a "man of integrity," Gates also says he has been "wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades."mbasts Vice President Joe Biden. http://www.usatoday.com/story/theova...elrod/4369355/ from a retired Obama Staffer.. What say, Mark Prince?

If it were love and kisses, there wouldn't have been a book.

If he were doing it for patriotic reasons the book would be available for free
Anyone who has had a significant number of employees has some who dream about slamming them in a tell-all book. The only difference here is that Obama has employees capable of actually writing one. No doubt there is a former employee of Minte inc who believes you have been wrong on every major decision in the last few decades. Hell, just imagine the chapter a former employee might write about the 'fountain we didn't really need' or whatever else.... I don't think Biden is a genius, but this book isn't the reason... ;) |

The fact that an important and a high profile member of the Obama team has this much negative to say about a sitting administration says a lot. Clearly, anyone with a pulse already knew that these people are incompetant..but having Gates say it just offers more proof.

I have not read his book, just excerpts. So far I have not seen any suggestions of corruption, laziness, willful neglect, cover ups, conspiracies, illegalities etc... The results we all see speak for themselves, unless he has some insight into intentional misconduct, I don't see how anyone looks more or less competent based on his for-profit book than they did before his book. He is cashing out and headed on the right wing buffet circuit to give paid lectures to people who already agree with him. I'd rather he work to change policy or run for office and do a better job if he believes he knows better than his former boss.

A ex staffer writes a book and critiques his former boss. Humm where have we seen this before?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_McClellan. Ex Bush jr staffer writes books critiquing Bush and Cheney. Seems to be the way to get rich these days.. I don't mind some ex staffer exposing things they think is wrong for the good of the country,, However when they do it for a big payday.. Well then they loose quite a bit of credibility. At that point no matter if what he says is true or not, you have to view it with an extra layer of skepticism. Snowden for example could have made millions off the stuff he brought forward. It could of made enough money to disappear and not be found if he wanted to. Instead he brought forward info that needed to see public light, at great harm to himself and didn't make a dime for doing it. These guys that write books and try to expose stuff, I don't care who or what, in the end they are seeking profit and with that in mind their opinions are usually flawed with the need to juice things up. |

Let's talk about all of the fucked up shit Repblicans do -- or try to keep people from doing on a daily basis. We could talk about the shit they're really good at -- which is doing nothing. The last 2 Congress sessions have been the worst in history, and this year is already shaping up to be a failure as they've already decided to work only half the do nothing days they did last year. They should be pouncing on the list of things they didn't get done last year, instead of trying to find more ammunition that doesn't exist.
...and people are supposed to be excited about some quotes from someone with an axe to grind. Who gives a shit about what someone says about somebody else in a book?

It's a depreciated asset. It still had to be paid for.

expected the spin ....
You can depreciate as long as you want, when you file your corp income tax, the amount depreciated that year is an expense, hence reducing your corp income tax.... That makes it paid partially by the tax payers . < - insert spin here = >

Typical politics thread
Says it would only sell because of haters, you are correct, people love drama Says everyone could have a tell all against them, you are correct! Some how blames it on the republicans? You are completely off subject. Oh and by the way, he criticized the Bush Administration too! Same, blames it on the republicans, you are completely off subject. Oh and by the way, he criticized the Bush Administration too! Funny considering the subject, Obama got two wars, Afghanistan and Iraq, he is pulling troops out now and both countries are going to be worse than when we started before too long. He criticizes Obama's foreign policies and well, he's right. It's a mess over there. Thinking we can nation build there is stupid. Here's a better read on it http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/...06851526222552

Rest assured, if I have any more capital improvements done at the plant I will not be sharing prices! However, we did do a good thing inside the building. We have already changed out over 550 - 400w sodium lights with high efficient fluorescent fixtures. And here I will share the numbers. The fixtures are $128 ea. and our electric bill has dropped nearly $7500 a month. So less than a year payback and we got a rebate from focus on energy for doing it. The plan is to finish the project in 2014. There is still nearly 400 more to change out. Old lighting New lighting

Google - section 179 depreciation. The fountain was built and paid for in cash in fiscal 2013. Over the next 15 years, beginning in a year we will depreciate it. And that assumes we make a profit each and every year. So beginning in the year 2015 the government simply won't receive as much from me because I elected to invest that money into the economy. The taxpayers contributed nothing to the fountain. They did contribute to the lighting. We already received the money from focus on energy.

I had yesterday to replace a dishwasher in one of my rental units . Paid with vis at the store a Bosch unit . I could have bought a unit 300.00 less , but I say that half of the unit is paid by the tax payers ( government ) . Why ? Because I will deduct that amount from my rental income , making the income less , so less tax . My last $$ earned here are taxes at 47 % . So my unit of 500.00 cost from my pocket 265.00 and from the taxpayers 235.00 Your fountain is the same principle ( different numbers ) ... You had no direct subsidies, but you are getting a tax reduction as an expense. Your lights ( which btw is great that you did it both for you and the society ) were subject to a direct credit . The part not subsidized will be a capitalized item, allowing to deduct from your income the yearly amortization . Not sure why I wrote all this ... pointless probably .

I am quite aware of how tax codes are implemented. When you purchased that bosch the people who made it and sold it all pay taxes. The government did not subsidize that purchase. They still get the tax from you and from everyone else in the supply chain. The IRS has only let you pay a bit less because they are collecting from everyone else. If I had received a grant to beautify the building and create a greenspace, (which by the way I could've and should've applied) then you would be correct in your statement. You can leave this conversation with the knowledge that I am absolutely paying taxes. And unfortunately a lot of them. The property tax bill alone would easily support 2-3 families.
