In fact Caithness has one of the darkest night skies in the whole UK so you can see arc of Milky Way stretching overhead on every moonless night if the sky is clear.
Due to county location on the far north, in Caithness you can see the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) more often than from every other place in mainland Britain.
