SOT, Andrey Lunev, correspondent of Zvezda channel (in Russian): "This happened today in Semyonovka. We went there to see what's going on, what the situation is like. And all of a sudden there was gunfire. It all started with a big loud explosion. We abandoned the car right where we were at that moment and tried to find cover in the bushes and behind the concrete utility poles. Armoured vehicles pulled in from both sides in order to try and push the self-defence forces into the downtown area. A cargo vehicle was right next to my car, and it burned down completely, its driver was killed, he was thrown out of the truck by the blast from the explosion. I think that the explosion could not have been caused by the cargo vehicle's fuel tank. The explosion was enormous, it tore off the truck's roof completely. I suspect that it was a hit by a grenade launcher. That man was killed just before I arrived there."

SCRIPT

Andrey Lunev, a correspondent for Russian TV channel 'Zvezda', described getting caught in heavy gunfire and explosions whilst travelling to Slavyansk on Monday. Speaking from Slavyansk, he said that fighting forced him and his colleague to abandon their vehicle and hide for cover in nearby bushes.

As they hid, he says they could they see Ukrainian Army armoured vehicles pull in from both sides to strategically "push the self-defence units back into the downtown area". Lunev also says he saw cargo vehicle explode after being hit by what he believes was a grenade launcher, and that the truck driver was dead before he arrived to the scene.

Roman, resident (In English):"I am very sad, I am upset. It is very hard to see what is happening here."

Reporter (In English): "What do you want to happen?"

Roman, resident (In English):"I want peace here. I do not want the Ukrainian army. I don't want them here."

Ukraine: Slavyansk local says Ukrainian forces fired at his house

Roman, a local man from Slavyansk, told a reporter that his house had come under fire from the Ukrainian army on Monday.

Roman initially said he did not know who had fired at his house as "in war, bullets do not know whom to hit" but later said it was the Ukrainian Army. He then said that "we do not need their operation here. We do not need them. We don't need people dying. We don't need them."

The man said he was unhurt but very sad about the situation in Slavyansk, and that he wants "peace here" and not the Ukrainian army.
