See, I wouldn't consider Mountain 'Southern Rock'. Maybe they are but not to me.

THESE are the Southern Rock "must listen to's":

Lynyrd Skynyrd
The Allman Brothers Band
The Outlaws
The Marshall Tucker Band

Listen to ANY of the above band's first 5 albums and there ya go, Southern Rock Heaven.

don't be a debbie downer.

Sure you can nitpick whether or not a song about a mississippi queen that references at least a couple southern cities and has all the sounds and such of southern rock but is played by a band from NY is southern rock or not,

or have a bit of fun

Besides, your thinking doesn't really make sense. That's akin to saying a rapper from houston is country and western because he's from Texas.

Where did I mention where Mountain is FROM?

Debbie Downer please. I listed 4 amazing Southern Rock bands yo.

I said Mountain isn't Southern Rock to ME (maybe they are, I also said...) because they do not SOUND like Southern Rock.

You probably think Creedence Clearwater Revival are 'Southern Rock' too because they mention the Mississippi in a song. LOL

FTR wiki lists ccr as a definitive southern rock band

Quote:
Southern rock is a subgenre of rock music and a genre of Americana. It developed in the Southern United States from rock and roll, country music, and blues, and is focused generally on electric guitar and vocals. Although the origin of the term southern rock is unknown, "many people feel that these important contributors to the development of rock and roll have been minimized in rock's history."[1] The most important figures of southern rock can be listed as The Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Black Oak Arkansas, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Mo

Yes, a Wikipedia entry that other people can alter and claim as 'fact'. LOL

I will go away man because I will not argue music with someone who thinks Mountain and CCR are 'southern rock'. They are 'classic rock'.

Basically, no 'twang' equals no southern or country rock (and there's a differance there, too - Buffalo Springfield or Gram Parsons anyone?).

Whatever man, have fun and rock out.

right on! I'm not sure why, maybe it's just where I grew up but radio played a lot more .38 special, blackfoot, molly, as I recall, than skynryd and allman, etc. Those are the heavy hitters, certainly.

No southern rock thread's complete without the 'missing link' - Steve Earle.

Saw him at the Diamond Club in Toronto for the Guitar Town tour (before he got all fucked up).

Amazing show that night.
