By the way look at food stamps statistics in US - poor people numbers are growing... That is because aspiration, aiming for more is being punished (high taxes) and laziness is being rewarded (no taxes, free food, welfare).

There was that study a while back which stated that if you raised the wages of all Walmart workers to something like $12 an hour it would only raise prices by about 1%. So I think it is relatively safe to say that more than likely the increase in prices would be under 10%.

Personally I wouldn't mind that. Happier workers are less likely to spit in the food and they are more likely to try to make it better for me.

Please define rape, because taxes on high income earners are the lowest they have ever been. Try going back to the 70's and 80's and claim you are now being raped. Do you just make up anything that sounds good in your head and pretend it's fact?

Simply relying on tips is not a valid idea...because most employers will just lower the hourly wage to take into account the increased tips coming in.

Look at Costco and Newseasons Market (Portland based grocery store). They pay their workers above minimum, with a good health plan. And they are successful. Consumers will pay more if they are being treated friendly with happy staff.

It also has to do with the fact that fewer mid-range paying jobs are being created. When you looks at the job creation numbers over the last 5 years most of the jobs created were either lower paying service and retail type jobs or they were higher paying jobs. Not many mid-range paying jobs are being created. The NY Times reported that 58% of all jobs created since the recession were lower paying and 20% were higher paying (meaning $21 per hour or higher).

So the simple reality is that the jump from a lower paying job to a higher paying job has become more difficult and it can take longer.

Don't forget that is added to Federal tax and sometimes County. That said, taxes were much higher in the 1970's in the US. Europeans pay more in taxes, but also receive more in education and healthcare, so there is a bit of a positive trade-off.
