Digital Ocean for adult?

Anyone had any issues with Digital Ocean and adult blogs? Is it easy for someone that knows next to nothing about programming to setup?

Can't comment on that.
Haven't used it for that.

Maybe somebody else could shed a light on that?

Nope.
And I wouldn't recommend it either to somebody with that skillset (or better said the lack of).

All you get is a bare VPS with your choice of *nix and a root password.

Better get something managed or semi-managed.
*cough, see sig, *cough

You're going to want to have at least some linux experience but it's not to hard and there's LOTS of tutorials out there (especially on Digital Ocean) and you can use a free control panel like VestaCP or Webmin/Virtualmin to make things a little easier. You could always buy one of their cheap plans (and with Digital Ocean you can scale up easily) and play around with it until you get comfortable.

Much truth in that.

I have Digital Ocean and you need to do a lot of work. My partner is a Linux system administrator and I have to message him daily due to fixes.. It's cheap.. You also have to spend $15 a month for a cpanel license. Managed is good. As long as you keep the system resources down use Hostgator.

You need to setup all the machine.
Select Linux distro
Install nginx, php, mysql and some security tools like Fail2Ban etc.
Configure SFTP.
Install Wordpress.
They have LOTS of tutorials that are easy to follow...
Reading them will make u able to install the basics and put the blogs running.

Piece of cake. Setting up "droplets" is as easy as pointing and clicking. And as Gus said above, anything you're stuck on they have REALLY easy to follow tutorials covering almost everything you can think of. Give 'em a try as once you learn how to do it once, the next time it only takes a few seconds etc. And if you make a huge mistake you can always just delete the "droplet" and start over without anything exploding.

Use their applications tab when setting up a droplet. They have pre-configured setups for things like LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) and even WordPress.

Getting set up is easy, and they have tutorials for everything. Once you're set up and learn a few commands, you'll enjoy having the access and ability to do whatever you want or need, whenever you want or need it.

They have no problem with legal adult stuff.

If you have no server management skills I highly recommend installing Webuzo free control pannel made by Softaculous. It has everything you would need, and if you pay $2.5/month you can even install Wordpress and hundreds of other scripts like on all shared hosts.

Agreed.

Look for a managed service.

If you're sticking with blogs then I think your time would be better spent on building traffic

That!

It doesn't work like those cheesy YT ads.
Even if you are an app-developper.

Being a webmaster or coder is something completely different than being a server admin. ;-)
