R.I.P. Tommy Ramone - the last original Ramones member...

Adios Amigo!

The first album I bought from my own money was a 2nd hand copy of "Road to Ruin" after seeing Rock'n Roll Highschool on TV.

When I started playing bass, i always wanted to play as cool as Dee Dee Ramone - with the bass hanging down at my knees (very uncomfortable though)

now there are no original Ramones members anymore - a piece of Rock'n Roll history has died

For some reason Tommy's passing has saddend me more than the other three and I'm not sure why. I was a huge Ramones fan from their first album. I was 15 when I first saw them in Feb. '78 for $1.00. I guess now that the whole band is gone I'm just bumming on the passing of time and my own mortality.

RIP Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee and Tommy. You were the fucking greatest.

R.I.P. Tommy!

Quick Ramones story: back in the '80's when I was a music journalist I used to go to a lot of shows at The Ritz, a small club in Greenwich Village. Being a writer I would get passes etc and sit in the balcony where all the VIPs sat. At nearly every show regardless of who was playing (the Cars, The Cure, The Cult, didn't matter) there was Joey Ramone, standing in the corner hovering over someone telling some great rock 'n roll stories. He cornered me on many occassions over the years. Turns out he lived across the street and would just wander in when a band was onstage. He could hear the show from his bathroom and he would get curious. LOL The nicest dude in the world.

All the great ones are leaving us.

I was supposed to see them live in the early 90s but my friend got a throat infection and couldn't go. I was only 12 or 13 so my folks wouldn't let me go alone. Big bummer.
