Maui recommendations

Took a little jaunt for the week to Maui. Any suggestions on cool local shit to do? Wouldn't mind living here.

I lived there for a time. Check out Black rock in Lahaina. Great place to snorkel/scuba

Check out Little Makena Beach, beautiful clothing optional cove off of the larger beach.

It's in the Wailea area.

Cannon balling into active volcanoes seems to be the thing to do.

Haven't gone in a while but if Mama's Fish House is still there... go. It was terrific.

After the Road to Hana - don't turn around - continue in the same direction. You will see the side of Maui no one wants you to see. Poor farmer huts and guys with guns protecting their marijuana farms...

I did it about 12 yrs ago and it's very dangerous & a bit scary. It might have changed by now though. Make sure you have plenty of gas and have rented a 4 wheel drive. There are parts where there are no roads or the roads are washed out/missing. Rental car companies disclaim coverage though.

Good luck.

The road to maui the traditional way kinda sucks. The other way is a little scary but more memorable. It's more remote, no paved road, etc but you get amazing views.

Gazebo for breakfast (white chocolate macadamia pancakes with coconut syrup) this is worth the trip alone. The beaches at lahaina are pretty cool. Take a helicopter ride to check out the crater or volcanos, plus you will see waterfalls thru the sky - no other way to see them except by air. Mamas fish house is a good place to eat. There's a bunch of places to go horse back riding. I usually go in the winter when there's whale watching boats, if that's not around check out the Molokini crater for snorkeling (google imag it) there are boat tours that take you out there to do it.

Lots of good restaurants in maui. There was a fantastic thai place as well forget the name but if you search for it I'm sure it will come up at the top.

We hired a guide to do a private snorkel trip around the southern part of Western Maui (Makena area, just south of the Grand Wialea where we stay. It was a kayak trip. One guide and my wife and I. I liked it because it wasn't with anyone else, we could go where we pleased. The guide knew all the best little spots etc.

Swam with the Turtles (AMAZING) etc.

Enjoy!

yup its quite a drive.....though if you rent a car most rental companies dont want you on that road or didnt when I was there...it can get a bit rough...also riding a bike down Haleakala is a cool day thing to do

Thanks for the feedback guys! Been having a blast here! I'm hitting Hana in morning at 5am. I did the sunrise on Haleakala mtn, the pineapple winery, took a road trip past napili in the green winding area road above the cliffs. Crazy views. Went to Napali bay to snorkel, honalua bay as well saw a 500lb turtle that scared the shit outta me arms length away. Hitting mamas I think on Friday and luau thurs night. Great trip so far!
