Ferguson police now wear body cameras... All Police should do the same.

This should be required to any and all types of law enforcement. Especially the ones that carry a gun and have the power over life and death over the people they are sworn to protect.

"After unrest over shooting, Ferguson police now wear body cameras"

"Michael Brown, 18, was shot multiple times by Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson on Aug. 9, sparking nearly three weeks of angry protests in the St. Louis suburb and drawing global attention to race relations in the United States.

Law enforcement and witnesses gave differing accounts of what transpired before Brown was shot, with police saying the teen had struggled with the officer. Witnesses say Brown held up his hands and was surrendering when he was shot multiple times in the head and chest.

The discrepancy has revived calls for officers across the county to be outfitted with body cameras to help capture an accurate record of police-involved incidents.

The policy has the support of scores of law enforcement agencies and the American Civil Liberties Union. Opponents say the cameras could be an invasion of privacy and deter people from approaching police with a tip.

During protests on Saturday, Ferguson officers began wearing small body cameras clipped to their uniforms that recorded crowds, conversations and even some taunts by demonstrators, a police official said on Sunday.

Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch the cameras have been well received by officers.

"They are really enjoying them," he said. "They are trying to get used to using them."

The cameras were donated by two video surveillance companies, Safety Visions and Digital Ally. In a statement on its website, Safety Vision said it donated the cameras in the hopes that they could bring transparency to future investigations.

"The city of Ferguson has gone through an unfortunate series of events and Safety Vision body cameras and flashlight DVR will assist in capturing prima facie evidence for investigations involving vandalism, looting, and shots fired," the statement said.

Some stores were looted in nightly protests, and police responded with riot gear and moved in military equipment to try to quell the turmoil.

A St. Louis County grand jury has begun hearing evidence about Brown's killing and the U.S. Justice Department has opened its own investigation."

"The victim attacked policeman and destroyed the camera". It will be used as yet another clue against some victims.

When it's in the Police's favour, the video will be released to vindicate their claims.

When it's not, there will be a technical glitch that causes the data to be irretrievably lost.

It should protect both sides in almost every situation...and keep the bad apple cops from being the usual sociopath they are.

If you have ever been to court where a camera was involved the video is always lost. In fact the last time I was there the judge made the entire courtroom laugh with his surprise that the prosecutors actually had the video. Only when it supports the prosecution willl a video ever be found.

They are not "guilters", they don't feel guilty; they are simply embarrassed by your asininity.

Nobody is safe from bad cop. However in absolutely most cases the "victim" is usually some shady character.
Or when I look around me and all the stories about cops. Usually the ones talking bad tales about cops are shady characters themselves. I never hear bad tales about cops from decent citizens...
Must be coincidence

Have the recorders in the trunk of the police car in a lock box and have it receive video feeds from a bluetooth transmitter.

Have only one persons job to remove and unload the video on to the police mirrored system servers. Never trust the cop to upload the video. That won't ever work. Need an independent person handling all video.

I totally agree. All cops are not bad. This type of system will forever change the way police act. I bet shit changes over night with video camera implementation.

Anyone who has the legal authority to take another human's life, should wear a camera with audio at all times. To not do so, given the technology is already there for them to use, is reckless and makes you wonder about their true intentions as law enforcement officers.

cops can just say that their camera was not turned on or that the tape was lost or some other excuse the next time they murder someone

I can see how you arrive at this assumption (by totally dialing in on media coverage and what you want to believe) but a lot of innocent people are also caught up in police brutality. There is nothing sensational about a news report of a white man being attacked by police. Where is the outrage? It happens way more then you think. You don't hear about it because its not newsworthy.

Just out of curiosity... are you white or republican? Not trying to make any assumptions based on what you would reply with, just trying to make an unbiased observation.
