The biggest oil producer is....

Seems the US just passed both Russia and Saudi Arabia as the world's largest producer of oil.

this line from the article pisses me off.

"energy from shale rock spurs the nation?s economic recovery"

that implies that because we are extracting oil from shale rock the economy has recovered. Which is completely not true. Shale rock extraction is extremely harmful to the environment. Which I suspect is the motivation of them making such a claim because the energy industry is making such huge profits. Fuck it I'm a pornographer and a Hollywood liberal I guess I'm the minority.

Anyone doing any oil drilling themed porn?

Sadly, that's the way it is.. Long as there are good playing jobs and big business is getting rich, then they don't give a fuck about the damage to the environment. The worst part is the oil is not always staying in the US. These oil companies get leases for pennies on the dollar on federal land and then sell the oil on the market to the highest bidder.

The Tax payers don't get any benefit because we are still charged as if the oil, came from Saudi or Iraq..meaning being the worlds largest oil producer means absolute jack shit for us because the govt subsidizes big oil but they don't subsidize oil or gas for consumers. IMO any oil that is drilled on Federal land should have to be used in the US before any is imported. Added to this the tax payers should either be subsidies a percentage for oil drilled on Federal land or should be granted a share of the profits. It's ridiculous that oil giants are buying leases for thousands of acres of land for a million bucks and profiting from that land by hundreds of millions if not billions then raking the tax payers over the coals with the gas prices we have to pay.

The govt is allowing the tax payers to get ass fucked both coming and going from resources on our own a federal lands.

LOL!

The oil being produced is on PRIVATE land. The feds are still restricting most of the land under their control.

So sorry Crockett...but you're just wrong again. Unfortunately, this Pres. is so hellbent on somehow magically forcing green energy to become workable...that he never does much of anything that could help the oil companies.

Whether or not more oil is a "good" thing...I'm sure you would say "no".

But I think the high paying jobs it would create in this country and the glut of oil on the market bringing the price down would allow our economy to take off.

Of course, you are convinced that then it wouldn't matter because of man-made "climate change" and the horrors of it all.

You need to send that memo to Pres. Obama as well. Tell him to stop deploying the U.S. military to be the policeman of the world. Those jets and ships and tanks all burn more fossil fuel and create more CO2 than all of us driving cars combined.
And God only knows the damage to the ecology that those bombs cause.

Maybe you should go take a road trip as I have done and actually see what goes on in this country Robbie. In fact go visit San Padre Island national sea shore for example which is mostly Federal land and see how many gas well you spot..

Then start visiting the lovely BLM land that is all over your home state and much of the west and see how many oil and gas wells you find..

Just look it up for yourself.
See how many licenses have been granted to oil companies under the Obama Administration.

Just because there are oil wells from over a hundred years in the U.S. doesn't mean that NEW drilling has been allowed.

I've read reports that with new technology, they have discovered what are the biggest oil deposits in the world. But most of it is on federal lands.

Again, whether it's a "good" thing to go after it is up for debate. But Pres. Obama and the Democrat Party are solidly in the corner of it being "bad".

This is just simply not true. This is like saying oil production in its entirety is extremely harmful to the environment, which we all know is not true. Irresponsible production and poor regulation currently are what's to blame for any environment issues.

I dont understand this embracing this old ass technology. That we are still using a fuel combustion engine that was invented over 100 yrs ago. Also it doesnt matter where they pull the oil its all sold on the world market to the highest bidder.

What's really nutty to me is people whine that we need to get off ME oil but when we do they whine about it or have some pie in the sky dream that the internal combustion engine will just go away and instantly no one uses oil.

Energy from Shale is a nightmare. I agree that it is good for the economy, but it is already an enviromental disaster that is getting worse every day.

Im not talking save the planet bullshit, its old technology. Oil is old technology being propped up by oil companies. if we used the money spent on this bullshit war in the middle east on getting off oil We would have a new strong technology now.

Oh wait, I forgot. You don't give a fuck about any living thing except for humans. You are one of those assholes who thing animals are put here for your use and amusement, and probably don't believe that animals can suffer in pain because of course they don't have "souls". Praise the lord.

Oil isn't "technology".

And the way the combustion engine works in 2014 is so advanced that I can't even figure out how to tune my own car up anymore.

I do think that I'd love to have a Tesla. But driving a car isn't that big a deal.

When electric motors are able to lift a passenger airline off the ground and fly 14 hours straight...THEN we can talk.
When electric motors can power a semi-truck across country THEN we can talk.

Honestly though...in both those scenarios...the problem isn't "big oil". It's "big airline" and "big trucker" UNIONS.

We shouldn't have to fly airplanes around the U.S. or ship goods via semi-trucks.

We should have a clean and efficient electric train system in this country like other places do.

But I'm afraid you don't want to hear this Tony (cause I know you're a big fan of UNIONS)...the unions will NEVER let that happen.

Just like here in Vegas.
They built a nice monorail system.

Unfortunately it doesn't really go where people need it to go. And it was stopped dead in it's tracks by the cab drivers union here from going to the airport.

The ONE place it was needed. A monorail system from the airport to the strip (which is only a couple of miles) would have eliminated 90% of the traffic. But NO...the UNION wouldn't have that.

So the monorail was built to go from the old Sahara (now the SLS) to the Flamingo and back. Whoopty-doo.

You should add in UNIONS to the grievances. We should be moving people and goods via electric train all over this country. But airline and trucker unions aren't gonna let that happen. No matter how "liberal" you may think they are.

And in case you're too lazy to read it:

"Oil production on federally owned and managed lands, where the U.S. government has most influence on the outcome, has fallen since 2009, bucking the nationwide trend, according to a report by the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service (CRS).

All the increase in oil and gas production has come from land in private or state ownership, where the federal government plays a minor role ("U.S. crude oil and natural gas production in federal and non-federal areas", April 10, 2014).

U.S. oil production has climbed almost 40 percent from 5.233 million barrels per day in 2009 to 7.235 million barrels per day in 2013, the CRS explains.

But while daily output from non-federal lands has risen 60 percent to 5.576 million barrels, production in federal areas has actually fallen 6 percent to 1.658 million."

The FEDERAL plan always has been and always will be to horde OUR oil on US soil and use up all the other countries oil first... that way when push comes to shove we STILL have it...

We are not dependent on other countries oil now... we do this in an effort to conserve our own oil reserves... NOT out of necessity, but because we learned during WW2... if an army cant move it cant fight. And if you think for a minute that if given the chance that if Russia or China spotted a large enough weakness in our defense they wouldn't come and kick our ass still then you live in a dream world. Ask the folks in the Ukraine if Russia will take advantage of an opportunity or not.

Thats not a Republican or a Democrat thing... its a US government thing.

THAT is why we compete with RUSSIA and CHINA to buy up and use all the oil in the middle east first.

They are there, but many are mobile --> on wheels. The conservative folks in the area don't want an overload of strip clubs, brothels, casinos and criminal activity that they would fear is associated with these types of operations. So these operations roll around in RVs or trailers, etc. Locations get txtd out by GPS or other means. The owners or managers of these services pay landowners cash to park then move to next location.

Unions are less than 7 percent of private industry, you guys need to find a new talking point. They are pretty close to powerless. New technology doesnt move forward if its not
used , look at computers. Same would happen with the electric motor if its used more.

yeah it's pretty ridiculous. Oil remains the easiest most efficient and cheapest form of fuel we have still, hands down. People get caught up in sci-fi movies and think inventing the next type of engine is just a matter of a couple of scientists and engineers getting together.

Inventing an engine is simple, anyone can do it. It takes a HELL of a lot more to make it run efficiently in both cost and consumption.

No...I'm telling you that right here in Vegas we have traffic jams full of cabs because the cab union stopped the monorail from being built from the airport to the strip.

No "talking point" needed.

The airline union has stopped any development of high speed electric trains (like Europe has) which forces us all to fly on airplanes across the U.S. burning jet fuel.

If you want to see more electric power used...then there are two pretty big things right there that the unions have blocked.

... except that it isn't. Oil is not the cheapest form of energy. What you have to consider is the true, total cost. For example, when you buy gas for your car, the cost to "you" is about $1.40 per litre of gas. The other cost is the cost to the environment. You don't see it unless you visit areas where oil has devastated shorelines, or refineries have turned the air brown, etc. And of course you may not be paying for it "now", but the true cost of oil and gas is much higher than what most people realize.

It's also not efficient. Chemical energy is stored as gasoline in a conventional car. Combustion is used to convert the chemical energy into thermal energy. Pistons convert the thermal energy to the mechanical work that turns the wheels. The conversion process is, at best, 35% efficient for an economical gas-driven car, and much less for V8's and muscle cars. The majority of the energy stored in the gasoline is lost as heat and mechanical friction.

As everyone here knows (and hates me for it), I'm BIG on electric cars. My car costs me $1.35 every 79 Kilometers and I have driven about 3000 kilometres so far, for a total cost of about $37.97 in electricity. In an electric vehicle, chemical energy is stored in a battery. Converting the chemical energy to free electrons (electrical energy) can be greater than 90% efficient ? some energy is lost to heat in cells and other battery pack components such as current conductors and fuses so the efficiency is probably closer to 80%.

**********ss conveniently leaves out all the upstream consequences of battery power (not to mention the insane amount of pollution required to build that chevy volt) while he points his finger at the very same shit re: internal combustion.

that's cute.

I have no respect for anyone who does not respect animals or their place in our world, or the habbitats where they live. You hate me because I care about beings that you don't. Good for you. I don't know if I'm a better person that you because of this, but I don't care. I could never be someone who like you that feels no sympathy, no empathy, for the millions of deaths and destruction of their enviroments caused by big oil and the CEO's of those companies who's cock you would gladly suck. So for all of this good sir, Fuck you.

Hi Robbie,

I'm interested in knowing more about this. Do you know why they blocked the monorail and trains? Both seem like a great idea. I would have expected a high speed train connecting Las Vegas to LA by now...

Lol! Dynao first I don't drink bottled water, and if I did, the bottles would be recycled properly.

Why don't you just go hang out and enjoy another circle Jerk with your Rollin' Coal Hillbilly friends and shut the fuck up?

... and "Mark Princess"? really? Is that the best you can do? What are you, 10 years old? At least, I have the guts to come on here and say what I think using my real name. What's your excuse?

It was the cab drivers who stopped the monorail service from the airport to the strip.

They didn't want to lose that money they get driving each passenger the 2 miles from the airport to the strip.

They also insured that the monorail didn't really go to places that people wanted to go...from the old Sahara to The Flamingo with a stop at the LVH. And it shuts down at night...even though Vegas is a 24 hour town.

And all highspeed trains in the U.S. are always shelved. The airline industry doesn't want to lose their enormous revenue either.

Folks in Europe tell me they never fly unless they are going across the ocean. But here in the U.S. you are forced to fly if you are going any distance (unless you want to drive forever...which also wastes fuel and pollutes).

lolz. you start the name calling with an original "dyna is asshole" jab and then claim the best I can do is **********ss? at least i'm original. I wouldn't expect someone who falls for chevy volt hype to be original though, so I let you slide on the asshole comment.

It's called the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. It's less about using everyone else's oil and more about ensuring the US has enough oil to wage war in the event our oil supply is cut off.

I thought you were a libertarian - how much is this electric rail system going to cost taxpayers? Do you have any idea how much 'stuff' gets trucked and flown? You're talking about an insanely huge in size and expense project that has no precedent. Private companies built the nation's railways - they literally controlled the economy and became known as 'robber barons'.

What you posted is not correlating with the OP. In fact it is completely against OP.
