Discuss what's fucking going on, and which programs are best and worst. One-time "program" announcements from "established" webmasters are allowed. |

to protect of not to protect your site name?
hi gfy. just got disabled at one program, for using his site name for my promotion. so, i want to ask, now, in the time of piracy and in the time when serps are mostly only pro piracy results as torrents and tubes, do you think it is still best idea that programs are disabling affiliates for using site name? you know, affiliate, cannot use site name, pirate, can use site name, so serps are then from pirates, and not from affiliates. is this really the best that program owners can do today, to piss off webmasters, who are trying their best, with some "we do not allow this kind of promotion, you are more danger than pirates to us" rules? please, vote, just want to know if i am the only one stupid thinking the way that program owners have to allow affiliates use site names for promotion ... i know its program owners thing, just will be great to show them poll where they will see they do it wrong, or to show them that they are doing it the best

everyone knows what i am talking about, buying domains or making subdomains with site name in it, and, of course, making whole content only to promote the original site ...

I guess you would only want to do that, if you have a huge brand you have to defend for legal reasons. I am pretty sure somne IP lawyers can explain why you would want to do this.

If you do it just to PROMOTE that ONE program it's not so bad. Most people are greedy dims and start promoting other programs on the domain. That is not cool.
Pirates can be dealt with more and more these days. |

It all depends on the agreement terms entered into. If the program did not allow that ... they are right. otherwise they are dicks.

Misusing a trademark can diminish its strength. While it may be ok for Mercedes, BMW, Honda, Toyota, etc to allow dealers to use their brands for marketing, the same can't be said about mainstream/porn website sponsors allowing affiliates to use their marks.
Auto dealers are carefully scrutinized, go through extensive training and must commit millions of dollars to their businesses. These large businesses have lawyers and are responsible, whereas typical mainstream/porn affiliates are much less sophisticated small operations with limited resources. Large affiliate programs can have over a million affiliates, who do not require special qualifications or training. For affiliate programs, it's strictly a numbers game. A handful of super affiliates will bring in big numbers, some will do good business and the vast majority will just spin their wheels (pun intended) without making any sales. It's easier for sponsors to simply deny all affiliates from using their marks by default and then allow a few responsible ones who generate business to use their brands by request.

thank you all for the votes and answers ... i am nicely trying to get answer from the program rep what to do with that problem, if they really want me to shut all those sales making serps down, and nobody is answering me ... i am really feeling like the biggest pain for them ... worse than pirate, worse than hacker, worse than file sharer ... so will wait until next week, and if nobody will answer, i will out the program here so you know who is doing what business these days ... thanks again all for your votes, and have a nice weekend everyone!

doesnt matter they made me nice money, and doesnt matter i am still sending them sales, what i see from email reports, just, if someone feel like i am some danger, i feel they are danger for me, if they do not want to communicate ... and i feel like it is danger for more webmasters who can waste tons of time with them, like me now ... from 2007 registered, sent many of legit rebilling sales from tons of my places ...

Are you actually making sales for the program or diverting traffic searching for them to other products in a way which might cause confusion? That is pretty much the litmus test for whether you are diluting their trademark or helping them.
