Head over to best buy. plenty of choices. If you know where you are staying you can even buy it online at best buy and then pick it up at the store.

I would go with macbook pro. You can get one under 1000.

If you want windows check out that Microsoft surface.

I would typically agree with you - BUT - my youngest daughter is in need of a new system for her art, she's outgrown hers - and we priced a few at Best Buy and the exact same setup at WalMart was like almost $300 less... for $1000 at WalMart you can get 2 or maybe 3 for that price... for essentially the same thing.

But ordinarily I'd totally agree - at least in the area I live in, anyway.

For $1,099 you could get a basic Alienware:

http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-14/pd.aspx

Not an i7, but a 4th Gen i5

4th Generation Intel® Core™ i5 Processor
Windows 8.1
8GB Memory
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 2GB GDDR5

Depends on what you're using the machine for. If it ain't gaming, you don't need this and you could get a shit ton of systems for cheaper.

Best Buy = Worst Buy

if you read The Consumerist regularly, you would know Best Buy opens up the box of every computer they receive and add bloatware/crapware

While that might be true I do think that bloatware is added at the manufacturing location specifically for the computers destined for Best Buy. You have to remember that the margin for profit is rather low on electronics and at one point BB was doing pretty poorly so every little add-on helps the bottom line.

Just delete the bloatware.

Walmart or a specialized type store like http://microcenter.com that has new and refurbished units good to go or any parts needed to build your own system
