Robert Plant turns down £500million offer from Richard Branson to reform Led Zeppelin

Robert Plant has turned down a £500million offer from Virgin tycoon Richard Branson to reform Led Zeppelin.

The 66-year-old rocker is reported to have ripped up a contract for 35 concert dates in front of stunned promoters after his fellow bandmates had agreed the deal.

Plant decided to back out of the tour because it "wasn?t the right thing to do", according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

Sounds like a bit of a dick move. If they turned up and shoved a contract in his face without any notice, then fine, but if he had provisionally agreed and then later ripped everything up, well...

It reads that only "fellow bandsters" agreed to the deal

His voice is shot and he can't hit any of the high notes in the Zeppelin songs anymore, otherwise he'd be all over it. It has zero to do with "it's the right thing to do" and everything to do with "my voice is shot and I can't do it"...

I think he just knows that Led Zeppelin was always better in the studio than on the stage. Best to keep that integrity than to go out and remind people how so-so they were as a live act.

I have mad respect for their position on this. Bonzo is gone, They had something special and they want to be remembered that way.

Branson is just copying Vivid's offers for people to do porn... But on a larger scale. He knew it wouldn't happen before he ever made the offer but now Virgin and LZ get some much needed free publicity.

Plant always says deflective ambiguous nonsense anytime he is directly questioned on his refusal to re-unite.

so i believe the reason he does not sign on is that he hates jimmy page & is done with him.

Kashmir sounded great - I prefer the '07 version to the original.

You have to remember he is 65 years old now... So he is NOT going to sound like he did 40 years ago... I think he is just happy doing what he is doing...

Still sounds good to me...

The mobile hospital for the band would have killed the profits.

Still, Plant did a nice folk record with Alison Krauss a few years back. "Pounding Sand" I think it was called.

Jason Bonham is worthy of the Bonham name that's for sure.

That was my point. The article mentions that the others were already on board, so it's sounding more like there was some provisional agreement, then he baulked.

That's what I was thinking. If you have million already(assuming), then there's no difference to have more millions -- plus he might not be driven by money. And maybe he just flat out doesn't want to do it and has moved on with his life.
