Putin Admits Russian Troop Role in Crimea Annexation

Contradicting previous denials, President Vladimir Putin has admitted that Russia?s armed forces played a role in events leading up to Moscow?s annexation of Ukraine?s Crimean peninsula, but denied direct involvement of his country's military in a referendum that was used to justify the move, according to an interview broadcast by German television.

In a March 4 question-and-answer session with reporters Putin denied that Russian troops were in any way involved in what was widely seen as an armed takeover of Crimea, insisting that heavily armed men in unmarked green uniforms that could be seen taking control of government buildings on the peninsula were members of ?local self-defense forces.? When asked by one journalist why the green uniforms were so similar to those worn by Russian troops, Putin replied that clothing of that kind could be purchased in any store.

I am pretty sure it must suck when you have to change your opinion all the time depending on what Putin admits to and what not...

well - i saw the interview on german TV, nothing in that article is in any way different from what he said...

same goes for the quote from back in March, several GFY members at that time backed what he said - that you can buy those uniforms in shops

Well, where do we begin!? I think there's no point in discussing the politics of the region since 95% of you are totally are clueless about the Ukraine and how it connects with Russia. So why should I expect you not to feed back all the propaganda you get from western outlets?

Explain what? Up to 25000 Russian troops were in Crimea since 1991, because Russia has military bases there. There is Russian Black Sea fleet etc. Course these troops were used during the annexation (simple because they already were in Crimea). Only a complete idiot may think they were not.

As usually you are confusing and messing up the things. Because it was clear:

1) The most important operations/objects were secured by professional contractors/mercenaries (not regular soldiers).
2) Those were backed up by regular Russian army soldiers from the military bases in Crimea.

I told the same here when the first images and videos just started popping up in the Internet. So don't waste your time on searching the posts where I said those "green people" were Crimeans who bought the uniform in a military shop.

So this was obvious for everyone from the very beginning. The one must be very naive or stupid thinking that based in Crimea Russian troops will not be used in that operation.

Neither. Ive never even been to Russia or Ukraine but I like to get my facts right. Im not defending putin but there's very few western people who really understand that particular issue (ie Ukraine).

Have you seen there any soldier of Russian army (outside of their bases in Crimea of course?) All that we all have seen are people in military "cifra" uniform without insignia. Rumors say they are mercenaries ("Russian black water"). If you have any real proof they are soldiers of Russian Army, please post it here.

No you haven't. I said there exactly the same as in my post above. These were professionals/mercenaries (e.g. from here and similar organizations) on all pictures/videos in that thread.
