BOA just closed my bank account without notice. Any friendly banks I can call?

I'm Canadian. I literally got on a plane and flew to Las Vegas last week to open a bank account. Took 30 minutes, had a card, all was good. They mailed me my documents on the 12th (new card, etc). By the 14th they closed the account. I hadn't even used it yet, just put $100 in at the bank when I opened it.

They won't tell me why. New business too.. No history. No idea.

Where next?

Ally doesn't do business accounts, it's personal only. Wish I could use them. :/

lol cool story:

I bank with TD Bank here in Toronto.. Y'know..Toronto Dominion bank. My sister is a bank manager there.

So I called TD Bank in the US, and they want me to fly to their branch to open an account to verify I'm me. I explain that I can walk 3 minutes to my local branch where I've had an account since I was born, and the bank manager there can verify me. No dice. Get on an airplane.

But then I speak to someone higher up, and even that wouldn't be enough. They need to send people to my "location" to see what I'm up to. I explain about the internet. They say they can visit my home office...

:P

I literally called the Ombudsman in Canada, and no help.

So I tried with BMO in the USA, and they can verify me remotely. How? They call TD Bank and get them to sign a form saying my signature matches etc. BMO trusts TD to verify I'm me. But TD doesn't trust TD to verify I'm me.

Ohhhh policy, you so silly.

Um.... I bank with BOA and have no problems. In fact, my business account - which is ALL PORN - has no issues.

Wouldn't it be more likely that his bank account was closed down because he is Canadian or at least not a U.S. citizen than anything else? Most of us here on the board that work in adult have had or still have bank accounts with B of A and other major U.S. banks without issues. Of course I am aware that it has happened to certain people, but it seems like an really odd thing for you to ascribe a mundane thing like this person's closed bank account to President Obama or Operation Chokepoint when a simpler explanation makes more sense.

Just wondering: Why do you, as a Canadian (and as a Canadian company, I assume) need a US bank account? I'm am Canadian too, and the LAST place in the world I'd want a bank account (either corporate or personal) is in the US.

Agreed .... But if you want to have a merchant account to process with Netbilling or others, you need a US account, and that includes Epoch , CCbill , etc ...

The trick is to get the $$$$$$ out of there asap !

I am Canadian and I have a US Dollar Visa Card as well as a USD Bank account, all through TD Canada Trust. having a USD bank account allows you to deposit US cheques and trasnfer over to your Cndn Dollar account at a favourable rate while also allowing you to pay down your USD Visa card with US currency. So, no exchange rates. In this way, you can easily, and conveniently deal with US based hosting, domains, etc.

Interesting. I am in Nova Scotia, with TD Canada Trust. I simply made an appointment to open what is a called a Borderless Account. I use that to deposit all of my US cheques as well as pay my US VISA card. I have everything with TD Canada Trust (and have for 30 years, using both TD and Canada Trust since the 80's).

Hmm, I applied for my US VISA card only 3 years ago without issue. It was just a simple credit card application that I did right in the local branch. And I was approved while I waited. I did it the same time I was getting a new mortgage.

All this is US$ cards/accounts but with a Canadian Bank in Canada . Most anybody can get that .

The OP issue is opening a business account with a US bank in the US ....

When I say I have an account in the US with TD Bank, it is not ythe same as Canada Trust TD ,,, even tough they are '' cousins '' ... TD Bank is an american bank.

Oh, ok, I misunderstood. But yes, t's easy to get a US VISA card and borderless account. I have my business accounts with TD, one of which is US based and all of my cheques are US/International wires are just deposited there (clients, affiliate programs, etc).

Yeah it's like he said. I also have a borderless account, keep a $5000 balance, have USD and CAD accounts, and a USD visa.

But I need a US bank account for my US LLC.

Looked through a stack of affiliate checks tonight and lots were from BOA.. I think I'll try a smaller credit union or something. Gonna drive across the border tonight and see what happens tomorrow morning. I'm thinking Buffalo is a bad idea though, because I bet in NY they have more hoops than normal due to 9/11
