A transgender 17-year-old who also identified as gay killed herself Sunday, leaving behind a suicide note that begged for her death to mean something, and serving as a call-to-action for support and acceptance of trans kids.

Leelah Alcorn ‒ born Joshua ‒ was struck by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 71 just before 2:30 a.m. on Sunday in a Cincinnati, Ohio suburb, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported. She had walked four miles from her home in King Mills. Ohio Highway Patrol officials said they believed the teenager may have committed suicide.

If a person can't have empathy for someone that obviously was put into a state of deep depression by having how they want to live oppressed by the very people that are supposed to love them unconditionally, that person needs to re-evaluate their worldview...

She wrote her parents "never physically hurt" her, "but they always talked to me in a very derogatory tone."

They would say things like "You'll never be a real girl" or "What're you going to do, fuck boys?" or "God's going to send you straight to hell". These all made me feel awful about myself, I was christian at the time so I thought that God hated me and that I didn't deserve to be alive. I cut myself at least once every couple days, and I was constantly thinking about suicide.

They took me out of public school, took away my phone and computer, and wouldn't let me on social media websites, so I was out of contact with any of my friends. I was like this for 5 months, completely and utterly alone. I wasn't allowed to talk to anyone outside of church and I wasn't allowed to be with any of my friends, I just had to stay in my house and be quiet.

Why didn't someone call CPS over this unbelievable abuse that certainly justified suicide by trucker.

re: this kid. replace fruitloop with the correct terminology describing him and regardless of his sexuality, he was messed-up. Simply being raised in a strongly Christian home by parents who don't understand mixed-up sexuality is no explanation for all of this. He said himself they never hit him once. Yes, the verbally abused him and many times that is worse than physical harm but not as bad as both together, as many have experienced who didn't publicize their suicide and then let someone else kill them.
