Macbook air 11.

Saw that lil one performing fairly well with a 27 cinema display, was it just a show off in the store or someone had it connected and working fine* ? Thunderbolt ?

*Photoshop and shit.

depends on what you're used to.

i use one that is all maxed out (cpu, ram and ssd) and have it connected to an external monitor when docked.

it's good for general computing (browsing, email, heavier webapps such as cloud based project management platforms, pipeline mgmt systems, etc.) but i wouldnt want to use it as a primary computer for graphic intensive work.

also, be prepared to upgrade to the newest macbook air every 1-1.5 years if you want to retain top performance for the software updates that come out.

It should work fine. I'm using my 13" Macbook Air now with a large samsung display via thunderbolt, and two USB external monitors (which are a little laggy, but are okay for most things)

After looking at pricing, it'd be better to just get a macbook air and use an external display. Unless you want the low end mini.

Get the 13 (what I have), like I said 11 is way too small to do anykind of serious work on.

About right.

Also, I believe, Thundebolt is something that is faster then HDMI, correct?

It's just apple's data port for peripherals. I've got a 2010 iMac which is a 2,560 x 1,440 hooked up to a Samsung 2,560 x 1,440 with a thunderbolt to displayport converter.

Mac is getting much better talking to PCs, you might have to do some things like today I had to open a terminal and edit a device profile so I could write to a NTFS formatted drive. That's rare and tutorials are easy and everywhere.

You'll be trendy with a mac.

edit: displayport is fast but for any files you will be using usb. The usbs are all 3.0 now and most drives are 3.0, backward compatible of course.

I have one I got refurbished from the apple website about 6 months ago. I love it. I have adobe premier installed and it even edits HD video pretty well. I think for video be sure you have a good graphics card. The one on mine is Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB that is going to be plenty of power for video. the chip is also plenty of power if you get a new one it's going to be more powerful than what I have 1.3 GHz Intel Core i5. It has 4GB ram you could always upgrade that but the fact is the one I am on is the mid 2013 model. And it works great and I love the size.

Have 17" old Mac book Pro and it runs a 27 " monitor via thunderbolt port and cranks all the Light room and Photoshop stuff I can use.
Not sure about the Air but thunderbolt is fast.

Ya, gave my MBP 2009 2nd life when I had changed the drive to SSD earlier.

I'm about to sell my Mac Pro Desktop and get the new one, if you're in the market for an Intel Mac that's a desktop. 8 Xeon processors, 12GB of RAM, two video cards, etc.

Hey, sorry if I didn't see your post about what you plan on doing ultimately... What did you end up getting as a replacement? How many screens, etc?

Right now, I'm using two 60" TV's as monitors, with a separate machine running other monitors (which are ... monitoring stuff, haha).

Please tell me those are 4k tvs ...

I'll make a leap in the future for something like that but for now I'm content.
