Thats not much! A movie like that (B movie with lots of CG) will cost at least $10,000,000 if they do it on a super tight budget. 500k will not cover much really.

Some of us remember a time when TV was free. It was supported by advertising. Then came HBO, and we started to pay for TV. Now we pay to watch ads on TV.

Radio is next. Some of us pay for radio. Eventually we will all pay for radio, and we'll be paying to listen to ads.

Don't get me wrong... I sort of liked the first one - it was amusing. But now this company is asking for $15 million so they can produce a movie that.... We will have to pay to watch?

you may want to read the campaign page as well - and maybe something about the concept of crowdfunding

Now we get into business, literally. Any profit expectations mentioned? What about the previous one, how profitable it was? Any profit?

The story of Iron Sky continues, and this time, we want to be dependant on nobody but our fans, friends and followers out there. With Iron Sky, we spent all of our energy in trying to finance the film, forced to be doing bad deals and compromising a lot. We had to tweak the story to meet the needs of the financiers but still fight to keep the integrity of the story intact ? had we not fought, we'd probably had Mickey Mouse in Moon Base with Santa Claus ? this actually was one real suggestion to make the story ?funnier?. We don't want to end up in these discussions again and we don't want to spend five years trying to come up with the money.

And then there's the distribution angle. With Iron Sky, we had some bad experiences, and we were constantly frustrated by the fact that we had no power over defining when the film comes out and where. This time, we want to keep all the control over the distribution to ourselves.
i remember for example that the first movie was released here in CZ about 6 months after it was released in Germany - by then everyone had downloaded it already. so they potentially lost a lot of money due to bad distribution

yeah - crowd funders receive perks, not shares. otherwise they would be producers and would have to cough up more than 25 bucks ;)

If I haven't got this incorrectly, the crowdfunding can be used to that too. It can't be that hard to divide the profits with investors (funders), even without shares, as there is already a "share"; profit per one invested USD.

They just want to keep the profit.

Well, it might be a bit more complicated if they share the profit, but it is still more simple than buying shares, as it is more complicated, controlled, and such. Getting investors per project instead of a company as a whole; sounds as viable solution, at least to me.

I have invested just into shares (directly), I have no first hand experience from crowdfunding.

i think crowdfunding like this is a viable route - people get stuff they want plus a good feeling

if i wanted to invest in a movie, i'd go a different route
