News National Guard troops sent to the Texas-Mexico border to stay indefinitely

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) ? National Guard troops sent to the Texas-Mexico border last summer are now in line to stay indefinitely and not come home in March as originally planned, Republican Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said Wednesday.

The shift comes only four weeks after Rick Perry, who ordered 1,000 armed guard troops to the Rio Grande Valley in one of his last major acts as Texas governor, was replaced by a successor who has promised an even tougher line on border security.

Gov. Greg Abbott did not attend the announcement and no plans have been formalized. But an extended guard deployment is the latest signal that Texas' new conservative leadership is planning record state spending on border security, even while acknowledging that illegal crossings have slowed dramatically.

Patrick, who also took office in January, would not say how many guard troops would remain. He said maintaining the mission through May would cost an extra $12 million, and that he expects Abbott to call for emergency spending to keep the guard on the border through August.

I've never understood why we don't deploy our military on our borders and have them patrol there. While I understand there logistics would be insane, it just seems like common sense. Even more so where there is heavy cross border traffic.

Nobody will pay for it. Just like stepping up legal immigration.
Regardless of what congress says, they keep cutting their budget.
They are the only body of government allowed to allocate and spend money.

It's not a nation of immigrants complaining.. Just Right Wingers whom think every Hispanic must be an illegal because he's not white. The rest of us understand that it's all just a big show as it wont stop much of anything.

The simple fact is if you want to stop illegals you don't have to patrol the broader, you only have to go after the businesses and people whom hire them and start charging them 5 and 10 thousand dollar fines for illegals whom they hire.

You of course wont see Rick Perry or any Republicans doing that.. Why? Because that would actually be effective and the dirty little secret they don't want to share is most of these right wing states like Texas, FL and even places like Cali all depend on cheap illegal farm labor to keep their costs down..

Added to this illegals help keep Social Security afloat and even add to the economy as well as pay sales taxes & even employment taxes, so the govt can keep stealing money from it.. Not even Right wing politicians really want to get rid of illegals, but they have to put on their little propaganda shows so guys like mineistaken can jerk off to it.

If we really wanted to stop the flow of illegals, we would help stabilize Mexico & it's southern neighbors, then start sending all those jobs we send to China back down to Mexico like we originally started to do.. which would solve the illegals problem.. However not even Mexicans will work for 3 dollars a week like Chinese will..

No one will pay for it? No one has to. In fact, let's make some money doing it. We have five air force bases in Florida - prime fucking real estate. Granted, there will be some clean up costs, but why not trade in prime Florida real estate for some crappy New Mexico land up by the border.
