Tempe Mission Palms just banged my credit card

I paid a deposit last month for mulitple rooms, great, but this morning Tempe Mission Palms just banged my card for thousands of dollars. At what point in time did hotels start charging for your entire stay in advance? I travel all the time and no one else does this.

I thought that was part of the terms; I don't think charging you for a room when they told you ahead of time that they would be charging the room falls under the category of "banging" your card.

As to why do you pay early? Probably because the hotel is closed to the public.

Is this your first time buying a room for the TPF?

Probably just put a hold on those funds. If you cancel then they release that hold. If you stay they process that hold. Happens all the time.

This isnt "credit card banging." They arent charging you for any services or goods you didnt want.

The rooms are in such a high demand they probably just want to make sure the people that put deposits down are fully committed or they could give easily sell the rooms to someone else.

With that said, I supposed they should let you know these details when you put down the deposit..

They do; he (hard to believe, I know) just wasn't paying attention when they told him and he verbally agreed to it.

Most hotels just take deposit but it depends if you book though direct or 3rd party like hotels.com

I have not had a hotel take funds before I actually got to the room. Additionally I can always change cards I want to pay with and not use the one I actually reserved with.

Thousands of dollars - crazy! I hope it's worth it.

I wonder if there are any hotels that would accept a cash only customer who has no credit cards whatsoever. Randomly curious. They would be out of luck trying to bang your card for shit you didn't use, so probably not huh?

Chances are, you could not reserve a room online or over the phone at most (all?) hotels without a credit card. But I would think several would let you pay cash or use a debit card when you check out at the end of your stay.

I reserved a hotel in vermont for a week from today and they already "banged" my card for the whole stay too. I'm pretty sure they charge you once you reach the "non-refundable" date. I know my hotel told me I had until 3/5 to change my reservations, after that I would be charged

Yeah, I think they did that the year before too.

I mean, whatever, I can cover the charges and I'll reimbursed later on but it's just the point.

Since they are closing the hotel to the public they don't have a lot of choice

yup I remember them charging the full amount before the few times I stayed there. I also remember them being very upfront that they were charging the whole amount beforehand.

It was mentioned when I booked my room that first night is billed right away then balance of stay in early March.

They actually never charged me when I booked the room initially and dinged me for the full amount the other day.

What does "being closed to the public" have to do with anything? I've worked in hotels before; We never charged someone for the entire stay three weeks before their arrival date.

There have been a couple of times when I have gone on vacation and they hotels have charged my card for the room before I ever got there. To be honest, however, the few times this has happened it was outside the US.

with all due respect, why not call the fucking hotel directly and not ask a bunch of non-hotel employees what happened.

They did that with me a couple years back.

Also some high end hotels do that, they charge the stay a couple of days before.

I'm pretty sure they have always done it like this. I remember that i booked too many rooms before and when I sold it to someone else they paid me directly because the hotel had already charged all the rooms.

It doesnt matter what other hotels do, the other hotels are open to the public, not this one

I'm still stunned. I'm sorry, I think it's improper for a hotel to snag $4k out of your account without an email or a phone call or something a month after you make the reservation.

Perhaps some of you would feel differently when your mortgage company takes twice your monthly mortgage payment without warning because they "miscalculated" your homeowners taxes.

They charge you once you pass the date where you can't cancel anymore anymore. I think it's very reasonable since too many people booked a lot of rooms they didn't need and then cancelled last minute. They should charge it 100% up front in the day of the booking in my opinion.

What the fuck does homeowner's taxes have to do with a hotel? I guess if you're so broke, next time don't step up to the plate and book for other people.
