Ask me 2-3 years from now ... damn, my Audi is really old. Am I the only one that is attached to their car? Do I need to see a shrink or something?

Not doing anything for me. A car has to be black or dark blue ... unless you are a girl, then you can have it in other colors.

There's a lot of older cars I'd love to have, such as a Model A,

But if I could only have one

My family and I have been working on classic cars for a number of years so we buy, fix, drive, and sell a lot of cars. Of those the memorable ones have been:

1950 Studebaker
1965 MG Midget
1966 GTO
1970 Maverick Grabber
1970 Dodge Dart
1980 El Camino
1980 Monza Spyder

All different experiences as far as repair and driving. Also, some of the rare cars (we ended up with 2 GTOs this way) you can get very cheap because select parts are next to impossible to find and might just need to be rebuilt all together.

My best advice, dont get sucked into a car because its rare or valuable or whatever. Unless you're going to compete in car shows nobody cares what you're driving. I've found people love some of the cheaper classics because they don't see them on the road as much, for example the Mavrick. So yeah, just find something you like looking at and driving and fuck everyone else's opinion!

Older Cars

There's a race I used to go to that the cars had to older that 1942. If you love classics. it's the best.

My high school car. Cept my was grey 1959 flathead Rambler. One afternoon I gave one of the cheerleaders a ride home. She asked if she could drive. No problem as the only vehicle on the road with more steel were tanks. She said, OMG, my boyfriend never lets me drive his Vette."

1959 Rambler, for some crazy reason they didn't have oil filters. When I bought it, it only had 10,000 miles on it. The original rubber tires were rotting off. The American VW

haha i oil galleries were probably massive in the block and I imagine the oil would have been more like sludge way back then too, so a filter would have been pointless ??

@OP - good luck on the search, chevelle / nova / camaro etc, so many amazing cars for you to choose from. If you don't mind me asking, what websites have you been browsing to find the cars?

It was a tiny 6 cylinder and you were supposed to change oil every 2000 miles. Seemed to be reasonably clean during the changes. Every once in awhile a Metropolitan shows up for sale. Same car, only it was a 2 seater. So the engines must have lasted.

Pretty amazing how the old engines use to keep running without all these sensors isn't it? Nothing like the smell and sound of an older car.

You may find this interesting...

TRANS AM DEPOT : Showroom 2012, 2013 GTO TransAm Hurst Edition Muscle Car : Paul Sr. Orange County Choppers Car Reveal Boston MA : Custom Cars : Firehawk Tribute : 6t9 Goat : The Judge

This company builds brand new Trans-Ams on the new Camaro frame, including a 77 Trans Am like the Bandit. I saw one about 2 years and it was absolutely stunning. I've owned Many firebirds over the years but the Camaro to TA conversion was by far the nicest, sexiest and most drool-generating version.

These new cars have rear cams, side and front radar, lane drift warnings. Seems like a lot of crap. You'll be doing expensive repairs in a year or two or constant false warnings every time you want to change lanes or in heavy traffic.

My ex wasn't happy when I taught her to drive a stick. But years later she thanked me. Automatics are worthless on snow & ice.

You can always smell a carburated car in traffic around you - I always loved that smell. Usually when I smell it I glance around at the other vehicles to pick out the old car/truck.

Reminiscent of my youth.

heh, my sentiments exactly. Always love traction control buttons that doesn't actually turn off all traction control

Came from a muscle car family... Dad & brother had a body/auto restoration shop...

Dad had a 57 Chevy Bel Air, 57 Chevy 210, 1957 Chrysler 300 C Convertible... My brother had a 59 Corvette, 1969 Corvette, 1969 Camaro, 1970 Nova, 1972 El Camino...

I had a 1979 Camaro Z28, 1974 Monte Carlo...

If I had to buy another muscle car right now it would be a 1981 Corvette - last of the curt but sleek Sting Ray design and they haven't jumped up yet in price too much. But they will start to appreciate very soon. Go with matching numbers and get her professionally restored. You can do it yourself but unless you know what you're doing it will hurt the cars real resell value.

Had a 78' and 79' Olds Cutlass, 78' was faster than fuck but body needed too much work so I sold it, 79' looked great and was working on the mechanical end and then they stole it.

My dad had a handful of the slightly earlier/cooler stuff GTO etc...

If I ever move outta the snow wouldn't mind picking something up old school as been a while since I had anything old. Old shit is so easy to work on.

Missed your post earlier.

Yes, I am much the same. The smell is completely different and I often hear the gurgle of an old exhaust and find myself looking about for it too. Love seeing 30 to 40 + year old vehicles on the road, especially when they are obviously still on daily duties!

56 Bel Air

In 63 my step-dad sold his '56 Bel Air for a '63 Chevy pick up for $300.
Dealer bought it for his brother. He called an hour later, wanted to know what oil he used. He replied Phillips 66 Tropic Artic 10W30 in summer 10W20 in winter. Swear I still see that car driving around.
The 63 pickup had the same problem as my 66 Impala. The 3 speed gears would lock up and you had to get under the under the hood and had work them back and forth to unlock them.

I showed up on a first date with oily and bleeding fingers as my car locked in gear in front of her house.

Everything they add to a car is something more to go wrong and always seems to be more expensive to fix.

If that's a 73 --- DON'T

I had a 73 Camaro, the 1st year they went to unleaded gas. I would have been better off with a mule.

This company builds brand new Trans-Ams on the new Camaro frame, including a 77 Trans Am like the Bandit. I saw one about 2 years and it was absolutely stunning. I've owned Many firebirds over the years but the Camaro to TA conversion was by far the nicest, sexiest and most drool-generating version.

did you see it in person? i myself am not a fan of the new camaro. GM is getting lazy. they been building the car 6 years now, the original only went 3. if i bought a new musclecar theres no alternative than challenger hellcat.
