A Quick Poll On Cancer. Please select all that apply!

Reading various threads over the years I am a little shocked to see how many people have dealt with cancer here or have dealt with someone else who has had cancer.

Please check each box that applies.

Lifetime Risk of Developing or Dying From Cancer says 43% of US men (38% of women) will develop some type of cancer during their lifetime. That means one in every 3 people will definitely have cancer at some point.

Sobering... Makes you wonder what is causing it considering people didn't seem to die of cancer back in 1776.

The increase in life expectancy inevitably increases the occurrence of cancer

The oldest known description and surgical treatment of cancer was discovered in Egypt and dates back to approximately 1600 BC. The Papyrus describes 8 cases of ulcers of the breast that were treated by cauterization, with a tool called "the fire drill."

Nearly everyone will get cancer or know someone that has.

My mother in law recently had breast cancer, and frankly, she was amazing. She is almost 70 and lost her breast. However, during the entire ordeal you would have never had known it. She went through chemo, bought a wig, and carried on like nothing was wrong. She survived and remains cancer free.

Go to the 60 Minutes website, they had a great segment yesterday about a treatment regime that's actually working.

I lost my brother/sister/both parents and my dog to cancer. (sounds like a country song ...)

It took my Dad a few years ago. There was ZERO indication he had cancer, he was feeling fine, looked perfectly healthy etc, he just had a mild (his words) pain in his stomach area. He thought he'd maybe injured a muscle or something, so he went for a routine health check up and they seen "shadows" on his Liver and chest area that could be "calcium deposits", on their medical scans.

So they brought him in and done a biopsy to check... and tests came back as cancer. It had spread from his Liver to his Lung area like an alien mass. It was scary (to say the least) just how rapidly he declined after the Doctors informed him it was cancer. 8 days later he was gone. So fuck cancer.

Sad to hear. My GFs godmother died very much the same way. Thought she was just having pain from being old. Turned out it was cancer in her stomach and she found out because she developed pneumonia. Did chest xray. Cancer. Died two weeks later.

Thanks, good segment.

Vice on HBO just had a special to start this season about similar new treatments like this, using HIV, Measles, Cold Virus, etc that's worth watching.

Two very close aunts of mine died of it.

Another uncle did too, and later his wife as well, but they literally smoked themselves into the grave.

My oldest brother's wife got it, fought it, and beat it. (so far).

I've known a veritable ton of other people, friends, aquaintances, etc over the years who have either had it or have had someone close to them go through it or die from it.
