Defamation Of Character Question

I have this douchebag I work around that has spread lies about me they are so bad other people believe his lies and has had some people try to physically hurt me. He started rumors that aren't true and are too disgusting to repeat. My reputation as a person around people at work is deteriorated because of his false accusations. He made up these lies because He pissed me off and I threatened to go to his wife about him flirting with other women which is 100% true. So he made up some unbelievable shit which is not true to smear my name to make me look like a disgusting freak.

I know Defamation Of Character is a serious thing and people get sued because of it. I would have a very hard time finding witnesses that he started these lies about me because the people I work around aren't the type of people that like to tell on other people. How do I prove it in court so this guy can be prosecuted or sued in a court of law for Defamation Of Character?

Trailer trash? Someone spreads a lie to all your clients and get's them to drop you like a rock costing you almost a million dollars in income makes me trailer trash? Getting a defamation lawsuit is the only thing I can do to stop this guy if I had other options I would go that route. I've already been violently attacked by people already so yes my life is in danger from what he said about me.

You will have to prove damages in court.

Being butt hurt or your ego trashed doesn't count.

Damages to an established income stream that was there before the defamation or proven loss of a contact that was in effect. A proven situation that further contracts were not offered as before the defamation -- you need proof of monetary damages to make a claim for damages.

The fact that someone shitted on you does not count for squat in defamation.

When you sue somebody in a court of law you can call witnesses who will be subpoenaed to court. If they do not show or they lie on the stand they can be held in contempt of court. There is no way you will prove to a judge that you lost money due to the lie (even if you prove it's a lie) unless you get the company to come in and testify that if not for what they heard you would have had X amount of money. IMHO
