Secret Service - Secret Service and DEA Agent Stole

Silk Road - Secret Service and DEA Agent Stole Bitcoins. This is getting really interesting. The agents busted an admin for the Silk Road, the admin handed over his password, which was used to steal bitcoins from the Silk Road.

New Silk Road docs show how site got looted by cop who hijacked dealers? accounts | Ars Technica
Quote:
The documents, court filings from November and December, only refer to Force, whom was apparently the sole suspect at that time. It wasn't until later that government investigators realized that both Force and Bridges, who worked together in the Baltimore investigation, had both independently ripped off Silk Road.

According to the government, it was Bridges who was responsible for the January theft, which he perpetrated by taking over Curtis Green's "Flush" account. It was that theft that first caused Ulbricht to turn to violence to defend his empire. And when he needed to hire a "hitman," another corrupt cop?Force?made himself available to do the deed

Corrupt cops stealing from drug dealers isn't exactly new.

I'm glad they nailed those two. [Allegedly] corrupt cops are far worse than drug dealers in my book.

Yea, I am wondering how they got busted. The bitcoins were transferred to Mt Gox and then on to somewhere else. At some point the bitcoins had to be turned to cash. Maybe when turned to cash and moved to personal accounts, Suspicious transaction reports were made. Would have been funny if the cops left the bitcoins in Mt Gox.

Which is usually the case in big cities.. Big organized police forces are nothing more than organized crime. If they aren't involved in shaking people don't they are involved in covering up other dirty cops whom steal or use excessive force.

What do you mean by "the bitcoins had to be turned to cash" ? If you mean that this had to happen in order for them to have been caught, then yes that's true. But if you mean that he had to sell bitcoin in general, I don't follow. What is so bad about taking your loot in the form of bitcoin and just sitting on it? The beauty of bitcoin, the thing that makes it a superior currency, is that nobody can seize them or track them. More info relating to this case below:

Especially if like Force is alleged to have done you go so far as to request they delete all your history or fake a subpoena in order to have an account unblocked.

Dea

Years ago the DEA had a task force called Swordfish. They set up shop in Miami and pretended to be investment advisers, who asked no questions where the money came from. Of all the billions of Colombian coke money they only captured $5 million. Oddly after Swordfish was dissolved all the DEA agents soon retired. Must of had a great pension fund.
