why is rolling stoned getting all the blame?

yes, Sabrina Rubin Erdely is sexist & unfit for journalism. she failed to apologize the people she libeled. she is scum.

but it was jackie that claimed rape & blamed the fraternity & the university all along. rolling stoned was just the mouthpiece that mis-reported lies as true. failing to check facts is normal for a yellow journalist. i dont expect the NY post to be factual, nor do i expect rolling stoned to be either.

it is jackie that is making it harder on women who are assaulted & feel nobody will believe them.

it is a fact that women lie about rape. thats the problem. why is rolling stoners getting all the heat instead of the actual libeler, the liar, the one who yelled rape where there was none.

Editors are supposed to fact check as well, or at least make sure that their journalists have. They failed as a publication.

User-uploading is something the internet might accept for news. Established print media is supposed to have editors that check facts.

because RS gave her a mouthpiece to perpetuate her bullshit. and psychologists created an environment that shuns asking people like her questions.

Exactly.

If every magazine or newspaper started publishing articles that were false or incorrect, it would be a huge problem. It's bad enough we have Fox News.

It was a failure from Wenner all the way down to the miscreant freelancer. Mind-blowing the writer is being retained by RS. Guess it shows how far they've sunk since Cameron Crowe's days. And that was already not such a shining period in rock journalism.

the other horrific part of this is how the university acted out based on the article and nothing more.

yes. but with the changing times & education quality in freefall now, its clear that standards are going away.

im just not reading a single word in the media that is blaming jackie for this witchhunt. all the blame is accruing to people who have a known progressive agenda. its not like anyone reads rolling stoned for objective news.

One's self serving bullshit, the other is a false life changing libel accusation.

A Washington Post writer won a Pulitzer prize based on a totally made up story, big journalistic scandal at the time.

"In 1980, Cooke joined the "Weeklies" section staff of the Washington Post under editor Vivian Aplin-Brownlee. Cooke falsely claimed she had a degree from Vassar College and a master's degree from the University of Toledo and she claimed that she had received a journalism award while at the Toledo Blade. While Cooke had attended Vassar for a year, she had only received a bachelor's degree from Toledo."

"In a September 28, 1980, article in the Post, titled "Jimmy's World",[1] Cooke wrote a profile of the life of an 8-year-old heroin addict. She described the "needle marks freckling the baby-smooth skin of his thin, brown arms." The story engendered much sympathy among readers, including Marion Barry, then mayor of Washington, D.C. He and other city officials organized an all-out police search for the boy, which was unsuccessful and led to claims that the story was fraudulent. Barry, responding to public pressure, lied and claimed that Jimmy was known to the city and receiving treatment; Jimmy was announced dead shortly after."

"Although some within the Post doubted the story's veracity, the Post defended it and assistant managing editor Bob Woodward submitted the story for the Pulitzer Prize. Cooke was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Writing on April 13, 1981."

the real problem with going after "jackie" on this is that will cause a riot of people to state how that sort of thing will limit women from reporting being raped.

i don't disagree.

Not sure what Chick-fil-a has to do with Rolling Stone magazine or the lack of research by today's press but I only go to chick-fil-a for two reasons: Their chocolate chip cookies and their lemonade. I can only do their cookies once every month or two though and I never go in just for the lemonade which is the finest in the land.

I wonder if that was an inspiration to the fifth season of The Wire.

Edit: I should have read the rest of the thread. ;-)

Sure, women lie about rape, but a lot of them don't -- and that's actually when they do have the courage to say something. The worst part about this story is not shitty journalism, but that somebody who hates women will use this inceident anecdotally to disprove a woman's future rape claims. "well, the Rolling Stone thing was a lie, so that mean's this bitch is lying too."

By the way, it's Rolling Stone, not Rolling Stoned.

Let's not compare Fox News to Rolling Stone magazine.

Fox News is in the business of journalistic inaccuracies as opposed to a magazine who has been kicking ass with great stories for many more years than that hack propaganda factory.

really? you dont think an agenda drove this entire fraud, from writer to editor to publisher?

you know the columbia review found the writer could have chosen from numerous actual campus rapes to cover, but focused only on the most sensational one. what specific reason did they choose the sensational story & didnt fact check? carelessness? LOL.

maybe like fox they set their agenda & let the agenda find the story. when you do that the facts dont matter, like they didnt here. its more than clear the writer, editor, & publisher did not give a shit about the truth. & the writer apologized to everyone except the actual victims of her fraud. if thats not hard proof of an agenda, i dont know what to tell you.

rolling stone better than fox news? please.
