Are you Proud of Yourself?

Most of us here on GFY are already in our 40s or 50s... Have you looked back recently, and seeing what you've done with your life, realized you are a success in your own eyes? Or do you see yourself as a failure?
Why? What, in your opinion, makes you proud of yourself or not?

Yes. I'm a success... I'm a fucking star! I was in exactly the right place at exactly the right time, worked hard and got out smiling!

I won

I'm very proud of myself, and I love myself very much.

I'm most proud that I love myself as much as I do when I once had a lot of self pity and hatred, it was super hard to re-wire my brain, and I am still doing that every day. I'm proud that my oldest graduated high school, and my middle one will next year when my highest grade completed was only 8th. I'm proud that I grew up and did exactly what I wanted to do when I was little....own a farm.

I could literally go on all day.

What about you czarina?

Yes. Strictly enforced more so these days. Check out the GFY Rules link for best results.

Me? I am proud of myself. I switched careers in my '30's (music journalism) to doing this of all things. I started out with literally $0. I had to borrow the $750 to open a CCBill account. And oh yeah - my girlfriend walked out on me, leaving me the whole rent to pay ($1100). I gave myself one year to make my rent or face moving back home to sleep on mom's couch. In the 9th month, after 13 websites launched, my 14th one "hit" and I never looked back.

Now I have 84 paysites with more to come, three affiliate programs, employees and more headaches. LOL But also more freedom. I had a shit ton of help (much of it right here on GFY) so I am grateful as well as proud.

The secret: have a goal, adjust when needed, and never (ever) stop.

I am very proud of myself.

I dropped out of high school when I was 15, left home, became a US Marine, a college grad, got married, one kid, made lots of money, and became a general manager of freaking Playboy. I have a really nice home here in Northern California. I am happy, healthy, and no complaints.

There's a few items I'd say I'm proud of, sure. A few accomplishment. And I pride myself on how I tend to take pride in my work, as in when I'm doing something I try to do it well. There are also a few things I'm not so proud of.

But do I have the kind of pride that says I've "arrived", that I think I've done everything, have grown as a person, have learned enough, and can now sit back and bask in my proudness and enjoy my glory(hole)? No, that kind of pride is delusional. Everyone has some improving they can do. Everyone. Some of us more than others, but every one of us.

I'm proud of being honest, open-minded, adventurous in my way, willing to help others (which often means just listening and paying attention to them), and for being humble enough to ask for help when I need it.

Accomplishments are measured in many ways. I am proud of myself. Pride without vanity is not a "sin;" it's just an acknowledgement of self-worth.

pride in and of itself is very much a sin, it is THE sin in fact and a concept that predates christianity. the greeks had another term for it, i forget, i'll look it up.

anyway, this is my view with it for me, not my view or criticism on anyone else's view of their own life.

this is a nice summary:

In almost every list, pride or hubris (Greek), is considered the original and most serious of the seven deadly sins, and the source of the others. It is identified as believing that one is essentially better than others, failing to acknowledge the accomplishments of others, and excessive admiration of the personal self.

Dante's definition of pride was "love of self perverted to hatred and contempt for one's neighbour".

In Jacob Bidermann's medieval miracle play, Cenodoxus, pride is the deadliest of all the sins and leads directly to the damnation of the titulary famed Parisian doctor.

In perhaps the best-known example, the story of Lucifer, pride (his desire to compete with God) was what caused his fall from Heaven, and his resultant transformation into Satan.

Pride

my point being with the success you've said you've had, you seem to be squandering it.

my life is pretty typical, nothing to really be proud of i suppose. business wise, financially i have failed to achieve many goals thus far. i will keep trying.

I don't really stop and take the time to think about it...but I guess overall yeah, I have pride in my life's accomplishments.

In the early 80s I was headed down a not-so-good road - but by the end of the decade turned things around, went back to college...and forged on from there. Got married, raised two daughters, built a successful business from scratch, bought a house, nice vehicles, all the toys I wanted...and still continue to put the food on the table.

I don't think of taking a little pride in terms of being better than anyone - just content that I chose the better path a few decades ago.

I do like how porn crashed for most people making it so younger people were less enthusiastic about becoming webmasters so now most of the internet porn people are bitter old men

Can't say I'm proud, been around the block a few times when it comes to women and although I've earned every damn cent with hard work and perseverance working for the man for over 30 years,I'm somewhat happy that I'm relatively healthy.

Spunky Spunky. There are things in life you've done to be proud. One you should be proud you worked steady for 30 damn years.

So you banged a lot of girls. Be proud? =) Most guys are.

Sure, when it comes to work .building massive pumps all by myself.but in the end ,you don't even get a good job from the man.he just wants you to do more even faster. It came with a price after 3 surgeries and probably more in the future
I was a man whore in my younger years, can't say that I'm proud that I used them.I'm thankful

I have a lot of things I'm pleased with, and in all honesty a lot of things that if it were someone else, I'd say "hey, you should be proud of those things", but I'm my own worst, and extremely unforgiving, critic. I make allowances for others that I don't allow myself, I see good things in others that I don't see in myself, I see others' accomplishments and not my own, etc etc. Very unhealthy, and I'm actually a lot better than I was lol, but it is what it is... the answer is still an honest 'no' to "are you proud of yourself" overall

That's nice of you to say, thanks mate.

If I'm really backed into a corner, I would grudingly admit I have some good enough life experience that in turn has allowed me to be a pretty decent bloke these days, and I do *try* to help others, even though sometimes my method can be wrong when I reflect on it. It's more sharing experiences and/or perception shifts than any 'wisdom' though

It's called being a "perfectionist". LOL

I hear ya man but at the end of the day, YOU are the only one who can let yourself off the hook for whatever life's mistakes were made etc. If you can't be proud of yourself then it's hard to expect others to be proud of you.

Fuck man, I'M proud of you for fucking posting on GFY all these years. LOL!

I suppose that I could be proud of what I have and what I have accomplished, the things that I wanted, and the lifestyle, etc..., but mostly I just feel grateful and content, and it is 90% contentment based on my life with my wife and my son and my friends. It's the people in my life that mean the most to me, and they give me a deep feeling of appreciation and simple happiness.

Oh I get it intellectually, just a vastly different task actually feeling it On my good days I'm not so harsh on myself, and really, overall, it'll be what it'll be, when it'll be. I don't beat myself up for beating myself up (which I used to do), if you get what I mean

crap, is English better than British? I thought being British was better (what's an English muffin then?) but it's all certainly trumped by being a londoner. that certainly explains it all more better.

Why? What, in your opinion, makes you proud of yourself or not?
I could have the same sort of HUGE sig myself just to worship my ego. But I won't, it does not make any sense, there is no success or failure, you're living in a made up reality.
