I guess Netflix.com is not a player in your local market.
They have the subscriber base income to produce good content of their own.

Netflix added 5 million subscribers last month with most of that growth in the EU markets.

not really

I saw cable, in the USA it not "hardcore?"

Netflix will never do hardcore -- why there is no 'pornflix' subscription service is perplexing.

Some people will pay 9.99, all you can watch, a month for legal full length porn at 720P/1082P. When your market is commoditized ... the alternative is to allow user download and have porn tube "user uploads." Some of the money is better than none of the money.

The major film studios have adopted this Internet model after their first release and rental release periods. The porn "hard copy release" is very limited.

So, what is the hold up?

MP4 EME now. Netflix was using MS Silverlight.
They needed to be cross platform -- HTML5 for the win
The resolution and quality is much better.

but if they don't accept hardcore...it's not related to our biz.

I think is better for mainstream videos or soft versions

same for amazon, itunes, watchTV, vudu

Netflix does not have to compete with an endless supply of rival companies that DONT charge the customer for the product.

Are there not 1001 movie piracy and torrent sites with links to pirated motion pictures as well as video of TV and cable network produced content?

Why pay for porn when it is free?
Why pay for full length movies when you can steal them?

Same thing. It is just a difference of scale and the organization of the theft and the commoditization, really the devaluation, of the product

Well you can wait for a 'pornfix' to sell to or you can try to create your own 'pornflix' ...

There is no Internet outlet now like the 'pornflix' idea I have thrown out. Someone needs to do some consumer market studies to assess the market acceptance of the idea because the development cost would be substantial.

Porn and mainstream entertainment is not consumed in the same way - it is a mistake to compare the two as equals.

The vast majority of porn consumption is random and casual. The porn tube delivers everything the average punter needs effortlessly. He does his thing, and then heads off back to facebook. He has no need to pay. He would rather not have something embarrassing on his credit card statement, and he has no affiliation to a particular site or porn star.

The netflix consumption on the other hand is completely different. My netflix account is used most by my children. The small monthly cost is not noticed and everyone in the household benefits. Furthermore we are increasingly consuming Netflix on our TV sets rather than PCs. I happen to use an apple TV, but Netflix is bundled on Smart TVs, set top boxes, google/android devices. You cannot torrent onto your TV via these devices, not easily anyway. The average Netflix customer would not even know how to access a torrent.

So it is easy to see why pornflix type products are not dominating the market. The average punter has a much better option.

No, they are more family oriented I think and are public stock companies (reputation management). The days of the local video rental store with the ''back room'' adult content are over.

Probably a dead end.

You make a very good case why any investment would be a bad idea ... I never envisioned sitting on the living room sofa watching streamed porn on my TV

Any internet connected device could stream this 'pornflix' business model. Tubes seem desperate for new content -- there is so much less to steal. This is the problem with cannibalism -- only one man is left standing and he starves to death in the end.

Well maybe the market is changing again and a pornflix type business might become viable and profitable. However up until now that has not been the case and you do not have to be a genius to see why.

Here in The Netherlands we have Net69.nl. It's a lot like Netflix, but with hardcore porn.

We closed our VOD 4 years ago. That was pay per video or VOD time.
videosz.com that's classic I have flash disabled -- no video for me.
VOD didn't adapt. I rarely see it advertised today.

There may have been unlimited VOD site use by subscription -- were there any at a 7.99 - 9.99 per month price point?

That is 2003.
If you accused Netfix of cloning the VOD type format you might have a point.
That's basically what they did and served it buffet style. Of course they deserve full credit for monetizing the idea and employing HTML5 EME to satisfy the demands of their content providers.

VOD in porn has not done this -- anyone with an example is welcome to post one that is not a Flash or Silverlight relic.
