"Bobbie Birkhimer said she couldn?t believe her ears when her son called and told her ?the cops are here and they just shot the dog?.

Birkhimer said she raced home to find about six cop cars sitting in front of her home. When she got out of her car officers said they wanted to talk with her. Birkhimer asked, ?who shot my dog?? Birkhimer said that police Officer G. Salazar responded that he had.

When she asked, ?Why, did she growl at you? Did she jump at you?? Birkhimer said Salazar told her ?No ma?am, but I?m not going to get bit by a dog!?

So it it police policy there to shoot any dog that they perceive MIGHT bite them? Or was this cop acting outside of policy?

Granted the family dog in this case was a Pittbull but any dog falls under the reason given for this shooting. Then they just leave it lying there in pain in front of the family.

Hell, 2 GFY posters here come immediately to mind: Baddog, he's got a very attentive/smart breed of dog who probably naturally barks to alert for strangers, is that aggressive behavior? Bang! ... Grapesoda has a dog that if you are scared of dogs is getting shot on sight. Both are gentle as can be.

The real question is "state of mind" what cop in his right mind will shoot a family pet in front of the family because of a perceived threat? Where is the hesitation, the alternative plan to taking your gun out, aiming it, and actually pulling the trigger. Then having to do the paperwork, meet before a review board about discharging your weapon, etc ........

St. Louis County SWAT Team Killed Family Dog Over Code Violation, Suit Says


On Tuesday, a South County woman filed a federal lawsuit that dog lovers should read with caution -- the allegations are pretty disturbing.

In the lawsuit, Angela Zorich claims that St. Louis County Police tactical officers -- aka the department's SWAT team -- raided her house in April 2014 and killed Kiya, her four-year-old pit bull.

The reason for the raid: to check if her home had electricity and natural gas service.

......The officers entered so quickly, Zorich's suit alleges, that Kiya didn't even have time to bark. A tactical officer fired three shots into the dog, and the dog's "bladder and bowels released and she fell to the floor." The dog "was laying on the floor in her own waste and blood struggling to breathe. She had a gaping hole in her chest."

Zorich claims the officers kept trying to talk to her about the natural gas, but she was focused on her dog, whom she'd raised as a puppy and who (she says) had "never shown agression to any person."

At one point in the raid, Zorich alleges, an officer pointed his firearm at her son's head and said "One word, motherfucker, and I'll put three in you."

This predetermined view of encountering a dog means the minute a dog is spotted, regardless of that dogs behavior, out comes the gun and bullets will fly. The cop has already run the image thru his mind beforehand, now seeing a dog triggers the memory cycle and it's played out.

I would much rather get bit by a dog than shoot it. If I feared for my life, maybe, but he would have to be doing some serious damage before I would draw a gun.

There have been probably a solid 50 stories, many with videos, posted on GFY over the past 2 years where cops shoot dogs upon arrival. Someone posted the other day that something like every 45 seconds in America a police officer shoots a dog. YES it's standard operating procedure to shoot dogs. They're bullies with authority and unlimited resources who receive barely any scrutiny, what else could be expected? The slope has been slippery for a long fucking time when it comes to police in America. Time to expect more.

Last week a cop car pulled into our driveway, so I hurried up and locked my dogs in their kennels before he could get to the door! I have two labs and a mutt who run to the door barking when someone knocks or rings the bell

The rats have called the police, but those unable to do anything because there is no law which allows them even to check the id's. They shown theirs (according to our law the policeman must show his ID (not just a number, but his full name, photo etc) first before asking for yours), but nobody in the care did the same and they just ignored their orders, because they were not bucked up by the law. No law reason? Get the fuck away, or get sued lose your job. Actually this is how the video ended.
