Trump declares: "I'll win the Latino vote!"

Quote:

The man who declared some Mexican immigrants to be criminals and “rapists” three weeks ago now says he’ll win the Latino vote in 2016.

“I’ll win the Latino vote because I’ll create jobs. I’ll create jobs and the Latinos will have jobs they didn’t have, I’ll do better on that vote than anybody, I will win that vote,” the Republican candidate and real estate mogul told NBC News’ Katy Tur on Wednesday, as he defended his relationship with Mexicans in the wake of international outrage over his repeated and offensive remarks about undocumented immigrants.

Maybe he'll win it for someone else? He does seem to have pissed them off pretty bad, I am pretty sure he's trolling at this point. But he could be retarded. People reach a certain age and just don't get it anymore I guess.

Has he pissed off the actual Latino population or just the media? That's the question.

Or will the media end up convincing the Latino population that they ARE pissed off?

It's hard to really gauge reality in this day and age. People do seem to react in the manner that the media and their "leaders" tell them to.

Just look at what happened in Ferguson.

He has already created jobs, he is a job builder. He already has dozens of undocumented immigrants working on his new Trump hotel. Latinos will love Drump because he will create jobs for them.

I'm not sure I understand the whole outrage and anger reaction to his statement anyway. He was referring to illegal immigrants only, no?

These new comments about winning their vote pertain to legal American Latino citizens. Dangle enough jobs and he very well could win most of that vote. Trump is dumb, but he's not stupid.

Just watched the interview.
It was a good back and forth. Kinda nice to see someone not take any shit from the media.
At one point she asked him if he shoots his gun at a gun range. He told her that's "none of your business".
That's exactly what you should tell them.

That's a good example of a guy who has been sold a false story by the media.
Trump never said that Mexicans are drug dealers, rapists, and thieves.
He said that most ILLEGAL immigrants are (and that's not true either, he definitely misspoke when he said "Most" of them are).

Anyway, unless THAT guy is an illegal immigrant in this country...why on Earth would he say the Trump is calling "us" those names?
Answer: Because that's what he's been told. Instead of watching the speech himself, he goes by what the media is telling him.

Sad situation that we are in when the media and the govt. control what people think.
And ironically...all the politicians and media people that are doing this are the same exact ones who were screaming about all the crime from illegal Mexican immigrants for the past few years.

There is one problem with his statement. In order to create jobs he must win the election. In order to win the election he will likely need the Latino vote. At this moment he has done nothing to win them over and has only pissed them off.

Good interview, but I was more embarrassed for Katy Tur, who was dripping in agenda and bias. But definitely got to discuss many topics.

Check out the exit poll numbers from the last four elections. Bush, in both elections, was able to get a decent amount of the Latino vote and he won both of those elections. Romney and McCain were not able to get much of the Hispanic vote and they both lost.

For example. In 2004, Bush got 44% of the Latino vote. In 2008 McCain only managed around 30% of Latino vote. In 2012 Romney only got 27% of the Latino vote

I'm not saying that is the only reason, but it is a pretty big reason. Any candidate that wants to win the next presidential election will have to find ways to engage minority voters and young voters.

Here is an article from Forbes that talks about the problems Trump has with Latino voters.

Here's a story that talks about how actress America Ferrera is thanking Trump because it has united many Latino communities and caused them to register to vote (for someone other than him).

Here is an op/ed piece by a Fox News contributor saying how Trump has managed to unite all Latino groups nationwide against him.

None of this is hard polling data, but I think based on how people have reacted it is fair to say that right now Latinos are not embracing Trump as a candidate.

In my opinion if he manages to win the republican nomination he will have a long way to go to earn back the Latino vote and I don't think he can do it.

Actually, I believe 40% of Latino voters vote Republican.

Will be interesting to see what they do if he wins the primary. Any smart person knows he'll likely flame out before the primaries just like last time.

It is pretty candidate heavy. They will vote for a republican if they feel that republican is going to represent them, but if not they slant democrat.

The republicans have had a rough go with the Latino vote the last two elections because the democrats are pushing for immigration reform which the Latinos want, and the it leaves the republicans stuck in an odd place. If they are too anti-immigration reform they will lose the Latino vote. If they are too pro-immigration reform they risk losing voters from their base.

The Democrats had the House, a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, and the White House for two years.

If they really wanted immigration reform they had ample opportunity to get it.

The simple fact is it's too good a wedge issue to beat the Republicans over the head with for them to ever even consider taking it off the table by passing what was one of candidate Obama's big campaign promises.

And the Republicans are idiots for not addressing this in the Congress now.

All they need to do in the House is amend and then pass the bill sent over by the Senate I think last year, change "pathway to citizenship" to "pathway to legal status" to avoid the amnesty argument (I was around in 86 and remember the unkept promises we were given then) strengthen the border security aspects superficially then send it back to the Senate and then watch Obama explain why he's vetoing it.
Because even though the Latino groups would probably grudgingly accept Permanent Resident status the Democrats want them to be able to vote because most of them will vote Democrat.

And the Republicans can say "we tried" and fingers will be pointed and nothing will change.

We have the Government we deserve

You are being foolish. The media wants him to NOT win.

And your comment on "everyone else" is emphatically proven wrong by his poll numbers rising.

I think he's saying (like many candidates do) that he knows how to create the right atmosphere for businesses to create new jobs.
If you check out his speeches, he goes more into details on how.

Of course the media have belittled him and said he's basically full of shit when he says he can cut better trade deals and can force companies in the U.S. to bring their plants and jobs back to the U.S.

And yet...they never ridicule POLITICIANS who make the exact same claim and yet have never worked in the private sector a day in their lives! LOL!

Trump does work with the biggest companies and all around the globe with different partners. So yeah...he does know what he's talking about.

I have zero plans to vote for him because I'm a Libertarian. I'm just commenting on the double standard and total hypocrisy of the media when it comes to candidates that they don't like.

They've done the same thing to plenty of other candidates too in the past. So it's not just Trump.

Funny, when I was younger....the media seemed to actually REPORT the news...not shape the news.

I never suggested the democrats did this for a noble reason. I think they blew most of the first two years of Obama's presidency getting Obamacare passed. After that the republicans gained seats and things got more difficult.

Like you say, the democrats want a plan where those here now will eventually become citizens and be able to vote. They know if they can get that it will win the the Latino vote for decades to come. Of course, the republicans want no part of that, but they find themselves in a rough area. They need at least some of the Latino population to vote for them or they can't win the white house, but in the meantime they can't piss off their bread and butter voters.

The argument goes like this: he'll win the Latino vote because [he said, and Latinos think] he'll create jobs.
