Bill Cosby receives standing ovation after stand-up appearance

Cosby is doing a stand-up tour around my area right now and there has been a huge uproar, even with the mayor of one of the cities where he is appearing going on record as saying the show should be pulled.

The venues didn't want to lose that kind of revenue, so the shows have went on, but lots of protests have been happening outside. I kinda wanted to go just to see if there was going to be any conflicts between the protesters and the people in line or inside.

Apparently some were even planning on attending the show just so they could heckle him, but it sounds like all that happened was him getting a standing ovation at the end of the show.

The women that worked with him for years have come out in the past week with nothing but support for him. Most of these accusers look like gold diggers or aspiring actresses he promised to help in the biz, but instead pumped and dumped. Now they're bitter and see a chance to pile on.

I wasn't there, but I have heard from a number of minor Hollywood actors of that period that women of the time pretty much threw themselves at anyone that could even possibly advance their careers. One of my acquaintances said that at cattle call auditions he would regularly see young women with their tops (and bottoms) off before they were ever even called in to audition.

I have heard it said that Kevin smith would regularly call auditions for no reason other than to meet young women. He wasn't even all that famous.

A publicist acquaintance of mine (female) said that minor actors regularly trolled clubs in the days before the iphone and "just wanted to fuck".

Certainly there are two sides in this case, but I think this may be the pot callng the kettle black LOL also, strange how everyone "knew" OJ was innocent but so many AA folks are against cosby.

I would like to see some hard, unbuyable proof before condemning a man.

At this point there isn't any proof that could possibly come out to satisfy either side in the Cosby case. Were you hoping there would be video of Cosby drugging and raping the women in question so that could sway your view?

I doubt there will ever be any charges filed against Cosby, its simply down to he said, she said in the court of public opinion. Problem is, Cosby isn't saying anything at all, not even a denial. He has also refused to take a lie detector test. Yet multiple accusers have come forward with detailed accounts of what happened, taken and passed lie detector tests and had corroborating witnesses back up their time and location with Cosby. Even with all the circumstantial evidence, most likely none of it would amount to a conviction in court, which is often the result in a rape case where no rape kit evidence is present.

Many of you who continue to comment and back up Cosby, seem to know almost zero about it, most notably Rochard. Let's clear up some of the misconceptions that continue to get repeated here.

The 28 accusers have spanned 4 decades, from 1969 to 2005. There have only been 2 of the 28 that have filed suit seeking monetary compensation, including the case in 2006 which initially brought the allegations to light. So to call them gold diggers, doesn't make any sense, otherwise they would all be filing suit. Also, these aren't nobodies looking to make a name for themselves. Most of the accusers are well accomplished business owners, entertainment industry executives, actresses and 2 of the most famous icons in the fashion industry. Also, the accusations haven't been broad and undefined, they have been highly detailed with amazing similarity.

Many of the women who have come forward the last 6 months knew nothing of Cosby's settlement in 2006 because it was sealed and kept from the media. It wasn't until early 2014 when a stand up comedian called Cosby a rapist in his routine, that many of his recent accusers first heard and were now willing tell their story as the "cat was now out of the bag".

I've compared the Cosby situation to the Lance Armstrong saga. For years, different people would come forward with allegations against Lance, accusing him of doping. Lance was one of the most beloved sports heroes in America and everyone seemed to just dismiss the allegations as those jealous of his success trying to take him down. It wasn't until the cracks began to crumble with a positive doping test and then a Lance admission, that the public finally had to acknowledge that he had been lying and cheating all along.

I don't think the Cosby situation will share the same ending as Lance. I don't ever see Cosby coming forward and sharing his side, nor do I think he'll engage in the activity again that he's been accused of. He doesn't have a lot longer to live and his legacy will forever be tarnished. For those that continue to back up Cosby, since the accusers are not seeking money or fame, what motivation do you suggest that they would have to come forward at this point with their story, if it were not for them telling the truth?

I'm 7 minutes away from Waterloo and I enjoy Cosby's show and humor. At the moment, I am leaning towards innocence because no charges have been laid (well, I guess the statue of limitations prevents this), and he hasn't been found guilty.

Cosby had a performance in Kitchener and London Ontario and actual hecklers were dealt with calmly. Apparently we have a lot of fans that stuck around and gave him respect he wasn't getting elsewhere.

Someone with something to hide wouldn't be coming out and doing shows like this, in my opinion. However, I don't know the deep down truth of the matter.

Apparently in London one woman heckler stood up and asked him if he wanted some of her drink. Cosby responded "You have to be careful drinking around me." resulting in a huge groan from the audience. No fucks given by the Cos'.

I can't agree. Lance Armstrong did something in the world of sports that was far beyond the norm, way off the probability curve. He was a smarmy jerk who, contrary to what Mr. Cosby has done, aggressively defended himself and attacked accusers in situ. The rumors against him occurred during his active period, not 20- 25 years after.

Many, many people are the victim of rumors and even false accusations. Look at Lady Gaga and the whole "Sir Gaga" thing, where news outlets printed a quote where she apparently "confessed" to being a hermphrodite.

What I am postulating is that there is a good chance that Mr. Cosby had consensual sex with many of the women now accusing him of rape. There is also a chance he went beyond their boundaries, as was a common behavior among hollywood elites of the time, and should *along with each and every one of them* be prosecuted.

In a case like this, I don't believe in having the accused suffer based on evidence that wouldn't hold up in a court. Mob justice doesn't, and shouldn't, work. I'd rather let a guilty person go free than convict an innocent person.

In a perfect world, which unfortunately we do not live in, this is the way it should be.

Unfortunately, especially in these days with the internet being such a staple in society coupled with anonymity, people just immediately read something and reach for their torches and start sharpening their pitch forks.

Is Bill Cosby a fucking saint? Hell no. I, for one try to keep what I read online as subjective as humanly possible. This guy made mistakes and I believe that these women are trying to either make a name for themselves or cash in.

Other celebs (a la Orca Winfrey) now no longer defending him is their way of doing damage control against the masses. They do have a career and livelihood to uphold and given the current state of the "hive mind" that is the internet, it only makes wise business sense to step back and disassociate yourself from those with bad reputations.
