Any car show enthusiasts in the crowd?

The wife and I just got back from our second major car show of the year - the 8th annual Tony Valerio Memorial show - here in town.

As usual, got some really great shots of the vehicles - including a recently-completed replica of the George Barris Munster mobile (signed by Barris himself in London, Ontario). Saw a '64 Corvette Grand Sport for the first time (but I'll still take a Cobra anyday).

Beauty weather conditions, just the right temp...no wind. And just enough cloud cover for great natural lighting. Fresh squeezed lemonade and a homemade butter tart for $2 bucks - officially puts me in old fart mode.

Anyone been to any good car shows this summer?

We have two car shows here in town I always attend. I love the muscle cars - the Mustangs, Camaros, Vettes, etc.

One of my friends here in town owns a Pantara which is pretty cool. Another friend has a 1940s Ford, full restored, with a paint job that is called "burnt tangerine".

I've owned a few older Mustangs - two late 1960s Fastbacks - but I never brought them to shows. The thought of going to a show and sitting there for eight hours talking to old people doesn't appeal much to me.

And that's pretty much the entire experience...old farts talkin' and reminiscing about their glory days and dropping words like "750 Holley double-pumper, Edelbrock manifolds, Cragar five-spoke, posi-track, etc."

Ouch.

Car shows in Niagara are always good since everyone likes to take the hotrods along the Niagara River parkway to show'em off and check out the scenery. It's a nice, long twisting road...fun to drive. Today I saw everything from Teslas to Lambos...a few Ferrari's...tons of Vettes. Oh, and two Maseratis. Lots of 50's and 60s muscle cars in the mix.

My dad has been a mechanic my whole life and he has raced cars for about 10 years. I have never heard him talk about any of that stuff. When I see guys drool over those big keywords, I always assume it's what they jerk off about at night instead of living it.

There's two distinct camps - hotrodding/street racing......and track racing. I'm assuming your father did the latter?

Naw, they aren't just jerk-off buzz words. Saw a lot of Holley carbs, Cragar rims and Edelbrock manifolds on display today. Photographed some of the ones that caught my eye. Talked to one dude (and shot pics) who had 15" wide custom Cragar 5-spoke rims on his ride that he described as "one-offs" and cost him $400ea. - which I thought was actually a good price.

What did your dad work on? Lawn mowers? They are not buzzwords, they are some of the biggest names in the aftermarket performance industry

I think SK is correct, different markets. He was never into the aftermarket style upgrades. Track racing.
