Just set my DVR...at the very least I'll get my daily Colbert fix by watching his monologue while I drink my morning coffee.

Sorry.... Never been a fan of Late Night. I was never a fan of Letterman, and frankly, Jimmy Fallon is kicking some serious ass. I think Colbert is funny but he is not Jimmy Fallon.

CBS isn't attempting to put a fallon copy on against fallon. or a letterman copy.

I'm' thinking that they scheduled his guests a few months ago. Jeb Bush? lol
They definitely thought that Bush would be the presumptive nominee when they booked that first show.

And you know that Colbert is wishing he had Trump instead. Bush = no ratings. So the ratings they get tonight will strictly be people tuning in out of curiosity and then mass tuning out during the Bush segment. Jeb is a black hole of charisma.

CBS should have started Colbert the day after Letterman left. I started watching Fallon and will find it hard to switch now.

Thanks for the reminder.

Late night shows are just marketing tools for the studios, but occasionally there is some humor.

Fallon is decent, Kimmel is boring, I think Colbert will kick some late night ass if he is given a short leash.

bush is still the presumptive nom. and going by what's known as the "invisble primary", is in the lead.

i'd wager that most people will tune in tonight are colbert fans more than bush fans.

you can tell by the guest list he's not going by poularity. the CEO of Uber isn't a popular TV celebrity for instance.

i get the feeling his show will be more jack paar like/

I watched Letterman for decades. Didn't appreciate Fallon until I started watching his show's in their entirety. Now I'm hooked on Jimmy, lol. CBS should never have given people like me a chance to switch late night channels.

People don't tune into Late Night Talk shows for any particular guest. They do it because they like the host, what he brings to the interviews, and whatever schtick he has going. Colbert is whip smart and can get laughs easily.

I record the Tonight Show, but I tend to watch only where there is someone interesting on.

Well maybe Stephen can lure you back when they show Fallon reruns. LOL But I hear ya.

I just wonder if Colbert will be "Colbert" or try to be Dave-light to keep the audience.

Colbert and John Oliver are the two best showmen alive today. I would gladly watch either wait for a bus instead of watching most of the other 'entertainment' on television these days.

I think John Oliver is the cream of the crop these days, and has arguably the only decent show on TV these days.

As for Fallon, I tried to like him... certainly liked him on SNL. However, he's become such a complete ass kisser on the Tonight Show that I find him too irritating to watch, so I gave up.

LOL at comparing Fallon to Colbert; not even close.

I admit I almost felt bad for Bush with the lack of enthusiasm displayed by the audience.

Haven't been a late night talkshow guy for a long time either, but I tuned in last night anyway. It's Colbert after all.

Nice touch having Jon Stewart show up in the opening sequence. Colbert's shtick later on with the demon idol got old fast and thus ffwd'ed. His oreo-eating-because-of-Trump's-idiocy shtick was simply epic.

Clooney; the non-movie trailer bits were mildly amusing.
Bush; His answer to SC's question regarding what mistakes his brother GDubya made and what he'd do different was the high point for me. Jeb may be the front-running 'serious' GOP hopeful but even when Trump isn't there he's all over the conversation.

One of the main takeaways for me on this inaugural episode was that Colbert stepped into it without missing a beat. I've watched opening night of other talk show hosts over the years where their nerves were showing, some quite noticeably. Anyone remember the first few WEEKS when Fallon started in his initial "Jimmy Fallon" show? I do. By comparisson Colbert slipped into this show seamlessly, did it justice, paid proper tribute to his legendary predesessor, and perhaps best of all there was no sign of Paul Shaffer (although after Jeb's spot I didn't stick around for the rest).

I think I may just tune in tonight to see how my girl Scarlett is looking.

What I liked:

- Colbert was spot on. He did a great job hosting the show. Very energetic.

- He did his shtick from The Colbert Report, which was pretty good too. Hopefully this will be a part of every show.

What I didn't like:
- The band. They tried way too hard to be "fun". Way too flashy. Then again, I hate all late night bands. I could never stand Paul Shafer either.

- Too soft on Jeb Bush. Of course he has to be nice to his guests, but the answer to the "how are you different from George" question was long winded and weak. There was room to ask a polite question or two about that but Colbert ignored it. Maybe he felt bad because of audiences super-light, let's call it "polite" applause for Jeb when he walked out?

Overall though, good show. I will definitely keep watching. Looking forward to seeing guest Elon Musk on tonight.

colbert actually did not let Bush off the hook on that question. bush tried to answer it with a joke and colbert pressed him for a legitimate reply.

i thought his singing with the band was really good. but yeah the oreo cookies bit was solid.

electric cars are a dead end bro, like the 8 track. battery charge time is the kick in the nuts. Toyota is on hydrogen & thats the next step off oil.

my bet is musks most successful venture will be, ironically, the hyperloop. solid tech, will make a steady fortune, too bad he gave it away! unlike boutique cars only richy richs can afford, & trying to land rockets on little boats. why doesnt he use a net to catch rockets? duh.
