Porn isn't addictive, wanking it. Porn is just the "needle" required to start the process.

It's pretty obvious that the whole porn addiction / sex addiction thing was made up a few years ago by the media and conservative groups who were getting pissed that guys could get off without being married or taking girls to Disney movies.

Saying people are addicted to sex is like saying they're addicted to having oxygen to breathe or clean water to drink.

But define what is an addiction?

I like driving my truck. I am disappointed I cannot drive my truck this morning, and most likely will not drive it today. Does that mean I am addicted to my truck? No.

There is a huge difference between something you enjoy and an addiction. Some people like to gamble, but for others it's an addiction. Wanting to watch porn stars fuck is no different than me wanting to see the new Star Wars in a few months.

Everything can be a addiction, but to complain about this one is to be retarded, all I picture is some fat bitch who cant get laid thinking that porn is a problem. All the idealistic thinking in the world wont make you right.

There is no sex addiction or porn addiction. Cum needs to get out of your nuts.

I have a friend of mine who is addicted to video games. 45 years old, beautiful wife, works for HP, spends ALL of his free time playing video games.

I have to disagree. I can't get it up anymore when with a real woman and have to finish off masturbating by myself while visualizing pornography. This comes from fapping 8 times a day every day since I was 13. FML.

Everything can be addictive. E.g. music, coffee, burgers, cola, beer, internet, books, games, bikes, ice hockey, fitness etc.. Why porn is not?

Yep. I know a story (my buddy was involved as a service provider) when two mature men (not kids at all) had a controversy because of their activity in some MMORPG and one have punched and killed his opponent. Not in the game. He did it in the real life.

I've been trying the no fap thing for about three months. I have to admit, sex is better when I'm not busting a nut every day. I don't take 30 minutes to cum like I used to and I shoot bigger loads. A nice side benefit has been more attention from women. I don't know what that's all about but I'm assuming that keeping my seed is giving me some kind of confidence surge. Just grasping at straws, but it's been really hard being a married guy lately.

The idea that anything can be addictive is incorrect anything can be a compulsion or an obsession but addiction is a VERY VERY different thing heres the best way to think of it

If you cant watch porn/drive your truck/gamble/play video games

Do you sweat? run a temperature? have bouts of nausea? have muscle and joint pains similar to a really bad flu? Can you you die from the withdrawals if not treated by a doctor?

If the answers are generally yes to these then its an addiction, if the answers are no then its a compulsion/obsession.

It is important to differentiate correctly because the correct treatment protocols are NOT the same.

You do confuse addiction with abstinence (sweat, temperature, muscle and joint pains etc). Haven't you had a basic course of anatomy in the school?

You are describing a physical addiction (drugs, alcohol mostly) anything can be addictive according to the DSM4. I know someone who had a real origami problem...

anything which causes any sort of physiological and particularly a neurophysiological response, can be addictive. It's not accurate at all to say that something can't be addictive.

This makes me think of one thing I have never been able to change--Sleeping. My whole life I'd get my best sleep about an hour before the alarm went off. This caused me to say "fuck it" to so many things. I missed days of work, had horrible attendance in high school, I could never take a class before 1pm in college or I'd miss too many days. It has impacted my life somewhat but I adapted in other ways. Does that classify as an addiction? Possiblly but I'm sure it doesn't. It just means I prioritize my comfort.

physical addictions are the only real addictions the rest are compulsions/obsessions look at it this way would you treat an addiction to heroin or alcohol the same way you would treat a so called addiction to porn?

Agree.

Today "addiction" is by definition, which is why we end up with retarded things like "porn addiction".

Money grab by an industry always looking for more customers to treat.
