iLasik eye surgery

Any GFYers that went through this operation?
Planning in having one, pretty cheap here (under $1000 for both eyes + consultations), at the best hospital in Bucharest. Almost at the same price as a pair of good glasses

Any experiences?

I thought about it a few years ago, but the process is scaring me a bit...

Those are not just fingers. Those are eyes and I have only 2 of them

i had one in france 2 years ago, surgeon did a super good job, no more glasses since.

They put me some collyre in eyes, it burns a bit but it's okay, then i fixed a red light while they were doing the job.

About 20-25 min per eye and no pain at all after, just a feeling like if you have sand inside.

I did the both eyes in same time , but if persons want, they can do it one day and another.

It costed me 4000 $ back then.

Not being a smart ass, but imho, the words 'pretty cheap' and 'eye operation' don't really belong in the same sentence.

It's the newest technology / best eye hospital, very good and experienced doctors.
I wasn't looking for a cheap deal, it just happens to be pretty cheap...

No, like I said, I wasnt trying to be an asshole. I was just making a general observation, thats all.

I could do with Lasick as well, but tbh, I'm too screamish about having anything like that done to my eyes, so I'll stick to glasses

i have done it, it's awesome.

and the picture above shows an outdated process, nowadays also the cutting is done with laser and not with a scalpel

at least in civilized clinics

my doc said there is no use of making laser eye surgery after the age of 30 when you have near-nearsightedness, because it will only shift to plus anyway.

i was nearsighted (-3), i did the operation at 41, i am doing great.

one day i will need reading glasses which i would have not needed without the operation but after running around for 30+ years with glasses, i'll gladly live with that

I did it for $1000 total as a promotion (new lasik department in a very prestigious hospital overseas). I couldn't pass up on that, so i tried it, was scary as fuck, but really no pain, if you just chill the fuck out and let them do their thing, it really is quick, easy, and wonderful. No problems since I had it done about 5-6 years ago

He's right. This is one thing where you should be looking to pay certainly a high price so you know they're not cutting corners and you can't have an incident of regret and look back and say: "gee, I went too cheap".

I was going to go get mine done here (Lasik MD) but I felt like it was a bait and switch. The ads said $500 per eye, but after the consultation and exam the $1000 surgery was suddenly $4000 plus tax, so I decided to skip it.

However I know a few people who have had the procedure and they are all very happy with it.

I did it a year ago. Very satisfied with the result. Taking into account, that I had more than -6 for both eyes, could not live without glasses or lenses, and now 100%, for me it is very impressive)
Actually, I read, it is advised for the girls to do it after giving a birth for some reason, but hopefully everything is gonna be fine in future

I had mine done 15 years ago in Montreal for $1100 USD.

The actual procedure was done with an automated laser machine. Calculations were made, doublechecked, and the actual 'shaping' took 15 minutes.

I've been very happy with the results. No problems here.

That's what i wanted to hear! Im -6.75 in both eyes and I've been starting to look into having this done. I absolutely hate having to wear contacts/glasses to see anything. Waking up first thing in the morning or at night and not being able to see sucks...I'm sure you can relate

the procedures that went bad would make me very hesitant to do this process, you basically better be totally sick of glasses cause if it goes bad, it will be a nightmare.

I looked into it but with my eyes the way they are they wanted $2,600 and I thought that was a bit steep. I don't want to go to a alley and get them done cheap but I hope that the price comes down more at good eye docs

My mother just had it done after wearin' glasses for 70+ years. She loves it. Even had her driver's license changed to say she doesn't require glasses to drive.

Just takes a little gettin' used to seeing her without glasses.

I've been getting closer & closer to going for it.

After a lot of looking around, the best in my area seems to be Blade-Free LASIK Surgery in New Jersey | Wills Laser Vision at Princeton

"The procedure is painless and takes approximately 1 minute." sounds great, but I'm still on the 'don't really want someone cutting up my eyes' fence.

Definitely! You should do it!
Now, after a year I got used to seeing everything( we people get used to comfort very quickly ). But first month after the surgery I really was living with a thought - what a beautiful world we live in!

The LASIK Flap Never Heals

In 2005, researchers at Emory Eye Center, Emory University School of Medicine published their study of human eye bank corneas, which demonstrates the strength of the post-LASIK cornea at the flap interface is only 2% of normal corneal tensile strength.

Schmack I, Dawson DG, McCarey BE, Waring GO 3rd, Grossniklaus HE, Edelhauser HF. Cohesive tensile strength of human LASIK wounds with histologic, ultrastructural, and clinical correlations. J Refract Surg. 2005 Sep-Oct; 21(5):433-45.
