I suppose it depends on what "best" means.

I was blown away with Ong Bak and The Protector. The choreography is incredible and The Protector is still home to the longest single cut fight scene every shot (9+ minutes). Both have amazing fight scenes which can be appreciated by someone who fights and someone who doesn't. Most fight scenes aren't realistic in terms of technique in movies, but his movies are full contact scenes with his own fighters and closer to real than choreographed and give a great look at Muay Boran / Muay Thai in use.

Toshiro Mifune's movies.....Sanjuro, Yojimbo, Seven Samurai.

Zatoichi, the original 47 Ronin (Chushingura), Lone Wolf & Cub, Musashi Minamoto and Ran are also worth a look.

This is the most expensive special effects made in Hollywood ever. Everybody knows that Chuck Norris can not be killed. He kills everyone who thinks that's even possible.

Raid 1 and 2 are very good. Also, The Man From Nowhere has some nice action scenes:

I have been in martial arts since I was 10 and most martial arts movies are unrealistic garbage IMO...bruce lee would probably get beat to a pulp by 90% of the guys I train with...

can remember the film...its about this guy who drags his dead master though the dessert...this was a good one...

Of course he would be, but we are talking about movies. They have nothing to do with the real life. They are fairy tales for teenagers. Personally I don't see anything wrong with that.

Not only is Raid 2 a top notch martial arts movie, but it's also one of the best gangster stories of seen in a long time. There's some Shakespearean shit going on in this one.

I agree with another poster - The original Karate Kid. Personally I think boys need bullies (to a certain extend).

Think about it.. If Johnny wasn't a bully to Daniel, Daniel would have never met Mr. Miyagi, never learned Karate and the life lessons that go along with it, and never earned the respect of his peers. In short, he would have remained a little pussy that no noticed.

In opposition to today's PC safe space pussy crowd, The Karate Kid could teach some valuable lessons..

Good replies here. I would agree about the old Jet Li movies. I haven't seen one I didn't like.

Here are a few that are reputed to be awesome, but I have not seen.
- Iron Monkey
- Five Deadly Venoms
- The 36th Chamber of Shaolin

It was a good movie, but got a little repetitive with the same finishing move every time.

If you get Robert Rodriguez's El Rey network, they play a lot of old school kung fu movies.

The Raid 1 and 2 mos def in the top 5.

If you can get past the 80's low-budget... Best of the Best 3 has some very tight Hapkido choreography and some decent TKD scenes.

The fight scene on the sporting goods store between Van Damme and Scott Adkins from Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning is certainly worth a watch even though the movie was shit.

There was a couple of brutal fights in that movie. The motel room scene was crazy.

Agreed. Some critics labeled it more of a gore/horror flick than an action movie.
