Insanity OR P90X?

I'm getting one today, just not sure which one. I'm leaning more towards Insanity since it's cardio heavy. Has anyone ever done either? Both? What are your thoughts?

That's exactly why I'm getting it. Forget 6-pack, or even 12-pack abs, I'm working on a kegger.

About six months since I've had a good solid gym workout. Still hit the treadmill about once every other week. Does walking back and forth to the fridge count as cardio?

that's when you move the beer farther away from you. Those people that put a beer fridge right next to their lazyboy's or couch are crazy. The walk to the fridge can be a workout if you do it enough times.

I've just never gotten into workouts. Taking a few mile walk or cutting back on pop and junk food is another thing I do when I see too many lbs.

then don't start with insanity. or p90x.

start with beach body 10 minute trainer. mix and match 10 minute sessions until you can do 3 of them together. then transition to p90x then try insanity. maybe. effective cardio requires muscles.

I have no shortage of muscle, trust me. I'm 6'1" 230lbs. I've just packed on some fat recently and want to burn it off. My ideal weight is about 200 - 205lbs.

Here's a photo of me from about 4 months ago. I was around 220lbs back then. As I've said, I'm around 230lbs now, and could stand to lose 25lbs. That's why I'm leaning more towards Insanity for the cardio.

Trust me, its called insanity for a reason. Either way, you asked for experienced advice, I've done all 3 and have given it to you, you're welcome.

I use this one and find it quite effective:

DeltaFit SpeedShred - Best At Home Workouts without Exercise Equipment

It is well balanced and has a lot of variety as you progress and you can fine tune it for your fitness level. Cardio and strength built into the workouts to save time.

Not trying to be funny/rude or troll - BUT!
Dont you think you would be better of just taking a lot of long walks, your mental state taken into account. I dont think you are in a situation where you need to stress your that much. Walks (1-2 hours) daily do wonder for your joints, core and mental Health.

In psychology you Work with two ways of mental Work at the deepest level; "bottom up" vs. "top Down"

From what you have written about yourself, you need to do much more "bottom up" mental Work, and walking is a great way to do that (splitting Wood and doing gardening as well - but not everyone have the chance to do that)

Not being a troll here - I am 100% genuine concerned

You make a good point. Crawl before I walk, I think you may be right. Based on what Dyna mo stated, I'm diving in head first without checking the water depth. I appreciate the feedback, and geniune concern.

Insanity is more cardio based and P90X is a bit more geared towards adding muscle.

I have done Insanity several times. It's one of my favorites. If you stick with it and diet you will loose weight. It's pretty intense.

The most important thing is to keep working out no matter what. Insanity or not, just don't stop.
That's what I think about the whole Insanity madness. Pun intended.
Good luck!
I just started working out again after 3 months, and I always remind myself how good it feels to be active, and not give up, but somehow I do give up after a while...
Don't be like me. Be clever. :D

One's no better than the other. They both will make you move and break a sweat. If losing body fat is your goal, you could lay on your back and flail your arms and legs like a wild man and still achieve the same result. Movement is movement.

I would recommend doing intermittent fasting, cut down carbs and hill sprint 2 or 3 times a week. The sprint sessions would be no longer than 10 or 15 minutes...much better time management than an everyday cardio program. That's how I went from 22% body fat down to 8%...but it didn't take a couple of months. More like a couple of years.

That's the other thing I would tell you -- make a long term goal and work the changes into your lifestyle so that it almost feels like you're barely doing it. If you become that person who is always chasing a 20 pound fat loss in a couple of months and go super gung ho, you're destined to put the fat right right back on.

I'm helping a friend get in shape now, and he's doing well so far. I had to un-program all the old-school bullshit from his head and educate him about changing his metabolism to a machine that burns fat around the clock. Fat is just a symptom of the real problem, which is a fucked metabolism that needs to be re-booted.

I considered myself in shape when I tried p90x, and really struggled to get to the end of each session... These workouts are like 50+ minutes, and the yoga one is 90 minutes. I didn't continue.

I second the advice on stringing together the 10 minute sessions until you need to move on to something more intense.

if you work out intensely enough, you'll never need more than 10 minutes.

Have done both a while back and enjoyed both.

P90x has far more strength routines in it.

Insanity is as you said all about the cardio.

Just take breaks when you need to, insanity is the one i'd pick if i were to go back and use any again.

P90x plus is good too.

That's good advice too.
Supposedly, you do P90X first, then go to insanity.
P90X does a great job of showing users how to do the moves easier if they are beginner.
Insanity jumps right into action
Although based on your physique, you probably know how to ratchet intensity down to the level that is comfortable to you.
I recommend top-down Insanity, with moderation. You seem capable of it. Insanity will strip fat. I have a $300 fitness tracker and 30 minutes of Insanity is a little over 300 calories. P90X would be half that. So Insanity for fat burn.
