Texas bringing freedom one surveillance camera at a time!

Seems the Freedom loving state of Texas is jumping at a deal for Free license plate readers for all their cop cars, that will allow them to pull people over and collect payment with their in car credit card reader for anyone who owes on a state traffic debt.

In exchange for this, the company providing the Surveillance systems gets all the data collected from the said systems to use in any profitable manner they see fit..

Are there laws that prohibit you from placing infrared lights around your license plate? I know they have laws about the covers but I've never seen them for this.

Dunno, but you can bet if it allows you to bypass traffic camera systems they will make it illegal.

I agree you shouldn't be driving a car with no insurance, license etc but look what they're already planning to do with it : LA's plan to scan license plates and send Dear prostitute-seeking John letters | Computerworld

Can you imagine turning down a wrong street and having a letter sent home to your wife that you're soliciting prostitutes? And I'm sure that's just the beginning of the creative shit they'll come up with to eat away our privacy.

Yep, you can bet if one state is doing it, many more will follow suit. I suspect FL would be right on the heels of Texas given the direction that state has gone over the last several years..

They are both police leech states using the judicial system as a way to cover state funding.

As for systems to catch criminals, all in favour of that. A company providing the equipment for free in exchange for info on cars. What's the problem?

Of course, you can vote for a Republican and see how they deal with big business. Or pay more taxes so the police don't need to give the info away, pay more taxes to cover the costs of those who don't pay taxes. Whoops, you already have to do that.
