Who here has had shoulder surgery?

I've got what appears to be a torn rotator cuff. I'm just waiting on an MRI, but a couple of days ago a huge bruise starting forming lower down my arm, as if the inflamation had caused a bleed that tracked down to above and below my elbow. The pain and deep aching from my lower arm to my neck has been pretty bad.

But as bad as it is, I know that if a surgery is in the offing there are going to be some other things to contend with. Like the possibility of not being able to type so well, if at all. Some might say 'big deal', but I make a big part of my income from tapping the keys (and I don't mean Alicia) (I wish I did though).

Anyone go through the shoulder thing? One Shoulder at a time? both? How did it affect your business or your ability to work?

My father in-law is a dentist, torn RC cuff...fully recovered after surgery. He has no more issues with pain and it did not affect his job/work at all post-recovery.

I've had many operations on my shoulder and collarbone after I hit a wall at 86 miles per hour with a car... Damn, that shit hurts. I still have pain everyday, but I'm glad that I survived that horrible crash. I also crushed my knee in that crash. I broke my left patella in five pieces.. So I'm also glad I can still walk after a long road of physiotherapy..

I had rotator cuff surgery a few years back and I completely healed and it's stronger than the other shoulder. Just make sure you stick to the physical therapy routine and do all of it and you will feel great.

they can fix those a lot better than they use to. wonder if it may be bicep tendon though? i know the two can be confused by the pain sometimes.

Either way, be sure not to put off the surgery. My mother did this, she wanted to wait until she retired first, its been over 10 years. I can almost guarantee repair at this point would be some kind of miracle...

Not quite the same thing, but holy shit man. Lucky to be alive much? Just wow.

How or why did you find yourself going 86 mph?

Thanks all. That all fits with what I know of it, both from my hospital-working years and from family who've gone through it.

I was young and needed to export a car to Africa from The Netherlands. I needed to be on time to get the car in a container and thought I could make it by driving hard on some farm roads. I was wrong... Stupid and I've learned my lesson.

I learned a similar lesson, but thankfully it only took me 3 speeding tickets in one weekend to get it.

Turns out I may not need a surgery after all. They're saying I have something called Adhesive Capsulitis (Frozen Shoulder Syndrome).

Good news, no surgery I suppose. Bad news... it can take over a year to clear/heal up. This is really messing with my sleep, and on top of all the back problems I have it's really piling on the pain.

in the recovery process right now... had the surgery dec 9th... 6 weeks with a shoulder brace on, now in the first 6 weeks of rehab. not able to lift anything heavier than a cup of coffee. second 6 weeks be about strength..

so I guess what I saying is yes, I have had shoulder surgery, in fact once on each shoulder with a second operation 20+ years later on one shoulder. and yes it is VERY difficult to type.. just a few min a day for a few weeks... just now getting back into content production... just the MRI tell them what the issue is... they can fix almost anything now..

I know that I owe you a mail, but saw this, and had to respond.

I've had something fucked up w/ my shoulder since early November. Pain radiates down into arm. I've been doing PT for about 5 weeks now, and it is not really helping much. I see an ortho next week, but the PT thinks that I probably tore something, then it turned into frozen shoulder.

So when I say that "I feel your pain", I mean it literally. ;)

Never had anything like that but make sure to get a second opinion before you do anything.

I worked in health care for 15 years and had never heard of frozen shoulder syndrome before now. Very odd. Thankfully it's not affecting my typing much at all really. Well, not yet anyway. Seems it's still transitioning from the freezing stage to the frozen stage right now, so there's a long way to go I suspect.

I was saying just the other day to my sister that i wouldn't wish this pain on anyone, and here you are saying you have it. Damn.

I'm on my third doctor right now, and of course I've had three different opinions. :D

I have a shoulder dislocation from a car wreck in 1985, I didn't realise it at the time , I only found out 4 years ago, im gonna have to have surgery soon to fix it. the ligaments and tendons need tying cos if I put it back in place myself it drops out again very easily. it can be very painful.

That does sound painful.

I learned at an early age that shoulder injuries can be and often are some of the most painful. At 17 I was playing tackle football in the park with a bunch of the guys, and got lifted and slammed to the ground on one play where I landed squarely on my left shoulder (the one that is bothering me now) I went to the ER to have it checked out, but at one point I nearly passed out from the pain as I recall. Turned out it was a bruised bone in the socket, nothing broken thankfully. I'll never forget that pain though.
