The argument is often presented that there is an extreme need for more diversity in the field of technology. This need not only exists for the sake of tech employees but it seems to be just as crucial for tech consumers as well.

Duretti HIrpa, Megan Anctil and Erica Baker are three black female engineers at the workplace messaging startup, Slack. They had a recent conversation regarding the importance of diversity in tech and an integral part of their discussion was about how diversity in hiring affects the end products developed by tech companies.

Programmers and engineers make vital decisions about the manner in which people experience the products they design, and very often this means that apps and gadgets are developed to solve problems of a restricted, popular part of the population. Perhaps this is why we see more startups like laundry delivery than we do those for child care.
